Clinton News-Record, 1983-11-09, Page 23PAGE 4A-CLINTON NEWS -RECORD, WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 9, 1983 West Huron egin s 22nd annual rally The 22nd annual rally of West Huron Region of Huron -Perth Presbyterial was held m North Street Church, Goderich on Wednesday, October 5. Eighty ladies registered for the day. The theme was "Sharing Joy" based on John 15:2: "Jesus said; These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full." Mrs. Marilyn Verbeek, President, welcomed all. The opening song, "Praise the Lord, 0 You His People", was sung followed by prayer. With Mrs. Ila Worsell at the piano and Mrs. Jean Hanly as leader, a lovely sing- song was enjoyed. All the songs expressed "Joy". The North Street President, Mrs. Nancy Pickell, welcomed everyone warmly. Mrs. Grace Pamn, President of Huron - Perth Presbyterial, brought greetings and challenged everyone to start "Bible Study Groups". The study book for 1984 is "Jesus Means Life". Two projects still needing help are the "Medical Electives Program" and "Seeds for Zaire". The annual business meeting will be held in Stratford at St. John's Church on Monday, Janaury 23. Mrs. Jean Hanly gave the trea'nrer'c report and also the budget for 1984 which is only increased by $75, so the allocations are not changed. She urged all to keep up giv- ings, closing with the remark, "Takers may eat better, but givers sleep better." . Mrs. Leila Finkbeiner spoke of some of the books she had for sale in the church basement. Victoria Street ladies presented a skit, "Who - Me?". It was introduced by Mrs. Mary Currell and those taking part were Mrs. Vernan Smith, Mrs. Douglas Robinson, Mrs. Ross Harrison, Mrs. Ben Freeman and Mrs. John Boa. Two lovely duets were sung by Marty Lobb and Elaine Bechtel from the Hohnesville church. The Bible Study, "Sharing Joy", was led by the Nile women. Mrs. Karen Roberts in- troduced it and pointed out the different meanings of joy in the Old and New Testaments. Group leaders were Mary Stoll, Myrtle Kerr, Shirley Dustow, Karen Roberts, Willetta McWhinney and Cora Sherwood. After discussions, each group reported their findings. After singing grace, the ladies retired to the basement where the ladies of North Street served a delicious dinner. The afternoon session was opened with worship led by Trinity ladies. Those taking part were Mrs. David Hackett, Mrs. Jim Hunter and Mrs. Alex Hackett. The offering was received by four Auburn ladies and prayer of dedication was by Mrs. Elva Armstrong. Mrs. Phyllis Fisher of Benmiller, UCW in- troduced the speaker, Mrs. Iva Wood of Goderich. Mrs. Wood brought a very in- spiring message on the theme "Sharing Joy". "We may think of joy as family, friends, church but Jesus' meaning of joy is dif- ferent. It may be found in ill health, family traged; our joy should be love and service because we are God's children. Love each other. Remember Jesus gave his life because of his love for us - God Lives - He loves - He Cares - His everlasting arms are always there around us. This is the Day that God has made - let us rejoice," said Mrs. Wood. The Reverend Ken Bauman of Blyth lead in singing several songs Mrs. Mary Currell invited Huron West Region to hold their next rally at the Vic- toria St. Church in 1984. Mrs. June Robinson of Donnybrook gave the courtesies. The hymn, Lord, Dismiss us with Thy Blessing, was sung and prayer by Mrs. Verbeek closed a very inspiring, uplif- ting day.
