Clinton News-Record, 1983-11-02, Page 911 CLINTON NEWS -RECORD, WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 2, 1983—P GE9 Mr. and Mrs. Rob McGregor Rob McGregor, son of Mr. and Mrs. Grant McGregor of RR 3, Kippen and Elizabeth Gibson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Gibson of RR 2, Seaforth, were married in Clinton's Ontario Street United Church on Sept. 10. Rev. Norman Pick officiated and Alice Andrews was the soloist. Matron of honor was Dianne Shapton and bridesmaids included the bride's sister-in-law Mary Lynn Gibson of Goderich and Sue Wilson of Brucefield. The bride's niece, Kendra Jewitt of Seaforth was the flowered and the groom's nephew, Jacob Bruxen of Hensall was the ringbearer. The best ratan was Wayne Shapton of RR 1, Exeter and ushers were Dave McGregor a brother of the groom and Roger Morrison of RR 4, Seaforth. A reception was held in the Seaforth and District Community Centre. Following a trip to the Poconos in Pennsylvania the newlyweds made their home at RR, Kippen. ( Floyd Wassman photo) Mr. and Mrs. Stewart Wise Stewart Wise, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Wise of Clinton and Ruth Shepherd, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John A. Shepherd were married at Hensall United Church by Rev. Stan MacDonald on Oct. 8. Maid of honor was Liz Voisin of Bayfield. Bridesmaids were Bonnie Kraemer of Kincardine and Chris Wise of RR 4, Seaforth. Flowergirls were Kerry Cleave of Clinton and Julie •Knott of London. Groomsman was Gerald Johnston of Bayfield and guests were ushered into the church by Charles Wise of Clinton and Bev Shepherd of Mount Bridges. Riugbearer was Jason Kraemer of Kincardine. Smiling question The sixth meeting of the Clinton 3, 4-H Club was held at Mrs. Saundercock's on Oct. 26. The meeting opened with the pledge and the minutes of the previous meeting were read. Members then answered the roll can, What did you have to smile about today. After that they went on with the sixth meeting. (Shelley McPhee photo) Special Care respond with ease to music Reverend Norman Pick was in charge of Sunday morning worship in the Huronview chapel. Flowers in the chapel were placed by Sarah Carter and Margaret McQueen. The choir sang a fine old selection and Frank Bissett presided at the organ. Tuesday afternoon, residents from Special Care met in the activity room for a social hour. They listened to the music and it is amazing how able they respond. Coffee and cookies were served. The Women's Institute from Gorrie and Wroxeter convened the birthday party foil October, and it was held Oct. 26 in the auditorium. There was a wonderful atten- dance and a splendid program was presented. Mrs. Mabel Edgar welcomed everyone, and introduced the entertain- ment. Mrs. Ron McMichael played violin ac- companied by Mrs. Florence Dickenson at the piano. Alvin Mundell and Mel Dennis rendered a medley of old tunes that appeal- ed to the audience. Their mouth organs har- monized very well. Mrs. Janet Hogg presid- ed at the piano. Mrs. William Smith gave a delightful reading. Two excellent musicians, Mrs. Mundell and Mrs. Velma Mann displayed their talent as they presented piano duets. The audience took part in a singsong accompanied by Mrs. Hogg. Tea and fancy cupcakes were served. On behalf of the residents, Mrs. Edith Lovett thanked the ladies and gentlemen for performing for us and mak- mg the afternoon an enjoyable one. Thursday afternoon, the residents listen- ed to organ music played by Ed Stiles. The last Thursday afternoon of each month, Eu takes himself away from a busy schedule in Goderich to come down to Huronview and play the chapel organ for our pleasure. All through the building such things as ghosts, bats, goblins and other scary creatures have appeared on the walls, in an- ticipation of Hallowe'en. A party was held- on Oct. 31. To the family of the late Mr. William Heather, a resident of Huronview who pass- ed away this week, we extend our sincere sympathy. Ladies host community supper SUMMERHILL - The Summerhill Ladies held their October meeting at the home of Ali Westerhout. The roll call was answered by 18 members and seven guests were also present. Ali Westerhout thanked the club for a sympathy card she had received. It was decided to hold a community pot -luck dinner at the hall on Nov. 9 at 7 p.m. Everyone is to bring plates, cutlery and food. All club members are to bring an item for an auction sale. A $25 donation was made to the Family and Children's Services Christmas Bureau. The raffle was won by Joy Vodden. For program, Tyna Nykamp gave a Thanksgiving poem and conducted a Spelling Relay. Gladys Van Egmond led a singsong of old favorites for Olive Penfound. Darlene Shobbrook guessed the contents of the mystery can brought by Joanne Salverda. The December meeting will be held on Dec. 14 at the home of Edith Wright. Roll Call to be answered by bringing a $2 to $3 gift for gift exchange. McCann of Clinton died in Clinton Public Hospital on Oct. 23. He was 65 years old. Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Mr. McCann was predeceased by his parents, Dr. Albert S. McCann and Jessie L. (Chafe) McCann. He was educated in Winnipeg and became an accountant after serving five years in the RCAF in the Second World War. On December 1, 1941 he married Marian Duke and the couple moved to Toronto and then to Clinton. In Clinton Mr. McCann was a member of the Clinton Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion and a member of the Masonic Lodge. Along with his wife, Mr. McCann is sur- vived by one son, Douglas of London. Also surviving are a brother Dr. J. Alan McCann of Courtenay, B.C. and two grandchildren Rachel and Sarah McCann of London. Mr. McCann was predeceased by one son Able Seaman Robert J. McCann and a brother Flying Officer Warren McCann. A memorial service was held on Oct. 25 by the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 140. The Masonic Lodge also held a service on the same date. The funeral was held on Oct. 26 at the Beattie Funeral Home in Clinton with Rev. Flower bearers were Garnet Crowe and Walter Newcombe. Albert E. Wright t Albert Edward Wright died on October 25 of a lengthy illness in the Clinton Public Hospital, he was 83 years old. The son of James and Lucy Wright, he was born on May 6, 1900 in London, England. He became an Industrial mechanist and in 1963 he married the now predeceased Olive Molyneaux. He later married Reta Critten- don of Clinton on September 10, 1976. Mr. Wright is survived by one daughter, Barbara Chalmers of Stratford, and two sons, George of Mitchell and James of Strat- ford. He is also survived by nine grand- children and 11 great grandchildren. The funeral was held on October 27 at the Ball and Falconer Funeral Home in Clinton. Rev. Interment was m the Trinity Anglican Cemetery in Mitchell. A committal service was held at the funeral home. Pearl Dale Pearl Dale of RR 4, Clinton died in CLinton Public Hospital on Oct. 29. She was 49 years old. , Born to Wes and Violet Dean on June 2, 1934, Mrs. Dale was raised in Owen Sound. She married Lorne Dale in 1961 and the couple made their home at RR 4, Clinton. Along with her husband and parents, Mrs. Dale is survived by two sisters, Bertha Criddle and Mrs. James (Marjorie) Dorey, both of Meaford and one brother, Bobby Dean of Angus. Funeral services were held on Oct. 31 at the Ball and Falconer Funeral Home in Clinton. Rev. James Bechtel officiated and interment was held at the Clinton Cemetery. Pallbearers were Doug Dale, Clarence Dale, William Flynn, Fred Buchanan, Bev Nott and Clayton Riley. Flower bearers were Bob Dorey, Gordon Dale, Ray Storey and Ernie Dale.
