The annual June barbecue and dance was discussed. The Kinettes have decided to assist the Kinsmen with this event. The theme will be 50's and 60's, accompanied by an Antique Car Show. The club will be selling cookbooks. Anyone interested in purchasing this ex- cellent book should contact a Kinette member. Linda Bosman reported on service pro- jects as follows. Taken individually, the champion play was Rodgers and Hammersteins musical South Pacific with over 15,000 people in the audience. Top draw in the concerts was Sharon, Lois and Bram with over 1,000 children of all ages. Playhouse II, the new studio -theatre which opened July 1, got off to a slow start but, as the summer passed and word spread that the three musicals (18 Wheels, The Return of the Curse of the Mummy's Revenge and Eight to the Bar) were all superb productions, attendance figures increased. Much of August saw capacity crowds thronging into the new space. Plans are now underway for the 1984 season. To date, the actual shows are not finalized but there will be six instead of five (as in the past) main stage produc- tions. Subscriptions for the main stage are now an sale for $44 until December 1, 1983, when the subscription price will increase. For further information, please contact the HCP office at (519) 238-8387. Learn rug braiding in a day Are you looking for a leisure -time activity which allows you to conserve energy, recy- cle fabric and save money while you create something useful and beautiful? Rug braiding is a course designed by the Home Economics Service of the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food to be of- fered as an Adult Leadership Workshop in Huron County this October. ,Braided rugs are enjoying a revival today partly because of the present antique collec- ting craze, but also because of their prac- ticality, simplicity of construction and ap- pealing designs which complement all styles of decor. Braiding doesn't stop with rugs though - think of it involved with napkin rings, placemats, runners, wallhangings, frames, belts, headbands, etc. At the Rug Braiding Workshop, you will learn leadership skills, how to recycle fabric from old household articles and clothing and will be taught the, basics of braiding, how to use new and old fabrics, how to plan color schemes in braided articles and how to use your braiding skills to make other household items such as a trivet, a placemat or a chair pad. For further information, contact your Rural Organizations Specialist for Horne Economics, Jane Muegge, Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food, Clinton, NOM ILO.
