Hailstones cause havoc KIPPEN - Hailstones the size of baseballs fell on the farms and homes in the Cromarty and Kippen area for a least five minutes during a storm on August 8. The hail broke windows of houses, windshields of cars, dented aluminum siding and cars, tore through the canvas of tent trailers, flattened gardens and fields of grain and shredded fields of corn. Bruce Dow estimated that 75 per cent of his 40 acres of corn is ruined. A field of wheat on his farm was also flattened with kernels of gram embedded into the ground. His father, Harvey Dow says insurance people are coming to look at the damage hail did to the body of his car. "The damage to the houses and cars are -bad but what the hail did to the fanners around here is the sad part," he said.
