Young of Stratford visited on Sunday with Mrs. Tom Johnston and Miss Laura Phillips. Miss Isabel Northrop of Toronto visited last week with her friend, Mrs. Wilma Brawley. Visitors this past week with Mr. and Mrs. Elliott Lapp were Mr. and Mrs. J.H. Wood of Montreal and David Wood of Toronto, Mrs. R. Templar of Rochester and Mr. and Mrs. R. Egypt of Windsor. Mr. and Mrs. Keith Youngblut, Patricia, Edward and Donald of South Porcupine and Mr. and Mrs. Richard Belliffieve, Trent and Renee of Waterloo were guests on the holiday weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Major Youngblut. The community is pleased to report that Robert Armstrong returned home last weekend after being a patient in St. Joseph's hospital for a couple of weeks. Angie McDougall of Sudbury has been holidaying with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth McDougall and her aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Gross, Anita, Bryan and April and returned home to her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Allan McDougall and family last week. Mrs. Major Youngblut is a patient in Alexandra Marine and General Hospital, Goderich. She is wished a speedy recovery. Mr. and Mrs. Carmen Tebutt of Clinton, Miss Kate M. Govier of Toronto and Mrs. Katherine Jackson of Auburn were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Stewart Ball of R.R. 1, Auburn one day last week. Mr. and Mrs. Emerson Rodger visited last week with Mr. and Mrs. Ernie Pink at St. Catharines. Several children from this community have been at- tending Camp Menestung. Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Archambault and Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Sellers of Bluevale returned home last week after a trip to British Columbia. Mr. and Mrs. George Collins and Jonathon returned home Saturday evening after a trip to Niagara Falls and other points along Lake Erie. Sunday guests with Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Archambault and Marilyn were Mr. and Mrs. Don Parker, Sarah and Amy of Goderich, Mr. and Mrs. Rick Archambault and Becky of R.R. 1, Auburn, and Mrs. Edna Duncalfe of Toronto. Miss Sarah Parker remained fur a week's holiday. Picnic The Walkerburn Club picnic was held at the home of Mrs. Pat Hunking recently and swimming was enjoyed from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Games, relays and contests were prepared by Mrs. Garth McClinchey and Mrs. Tom Cunningham. Mrs. Terry Rutledge won the jelly bean guessing contest. The trivia contest was won by Keith Lapp. The relay teams and the scavenger hunt winners received candies. Name bingo was played with most everyone winning a prize. A picnic lunch was enjoyed by all and special thanks was given to Pat for the use of her pool and grounds for this annual event. Plans were made for the next meeting to be held on August .29 at the home of Mrs. Stewart Ball. This will be a walk through the woods to see the scenic surroun- dings on the banks of the Blyth creek in the Maitland Block of Hullett Township. Social News Mr. and Mrs. Donald Cartwright returned last week from a camping trip at Port Carling in Northern Ontario. The lucky winner at the Auburn and District Lions Club a week ago was John Thompson. Last week's winner was Jim Glousher. Anniversary . Bouquets of roses flanked the decorated anniversary cake at the Auburn Com- munity Memorial Hall last Saturday afternoon when the family of Mr. and Mrs. Tom, Jardin held Open House to celebrate their parents 45th wedding anniversary. Mrs. Bonnie Armour of Waterloo (daugnter) was in charge of the special card which the guests signed and welcomed everyone along with her brothers, Donald of Kitchener, Lyman of Port Alberni, B.C., Paul of Kit- chener and Harold of Belgrave. Afternoon smorgasbord and tea was set up by members of Unit 2 of Knox UCW. The afternoon was spent renewing acquaintances with over 135 relatives and friends Mr. Jardin had two brothers present, Archie Jardin and Mrs. Jardin of Ajax, Lyman Jardin and Mrs. Jardin of Toronto and two sisters, Mrs. Ken ( Audrey) Parsons and Mr. Parsons of Toronto and Mrs. Allan (Lois) Tomlinson and Mr. Tomlinson of Toronto. Mrs. Jardin had her mother, Mrs. Elva Straughan of Auburn, a sister, Mrs. Clayton ( Annie) Robertson and Mr. Robertson of Meaford and a cousin Jack Bennett and Mrs. Bennett of Amher- stburg, all present. Following their marriage in Knox United Church, Auburn, Mr. and Mrs. Jardin lived in East Wawanosh for 11 years, then Belgrave, Clarksburg and Wingham, moving nine years ago to Auburn on Goderich Street. Guests were present from Morth Bay, Peterborough, Kitchener, Wingham, Stratford, Clarksburg, Mississauga, Brampton, Goderich, Blyth, Toronto, Meaford, Amherstburg, Port Alberni, B.C. and the surrounding district. The bride and groom of 45 years received many gifts from relatives and friends along with many cards to mark the occasion. Mrs. George Fear read the scripture and Mrs. Garner Nicholson read the Meditation. Mrs. Joseph Dunbar read of the work done in Evangel Hall, Toronto, a mission for poverty striken people. Mrs. Cloakey read a poem. Personals Mrs. Beth Procter, Mrs. Iloward Zettler and Sherry Lynn of Chepstow visited with Marjorie Procter of Sarnia. Mrs. Bud Kersey and son Danny of Florida and Mrs. Ella Green of Westport were visitors with Mrs. Earl Anderson last week. Mrs. Hazel Procter and Mrs. Lewis Cook are patients in Victoria Hospital. Mrs. Edna Nethery is a patient in St. Joseph Hospital, London. We wish them all a speedy recovery. A family get-together of 35 Thompson and Taylor relatives was held at, the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Thompson who have just moved into their new home on R.R. 2, Lucknow last Friday. The Hope Chapel cemetery decoration memorial service will be held August 28 at 3 p.m. The guest speaker is Rev. Clarence Hunking. Burns UCW Meet The August meeting of the Burns UCW was held on August 3 at the home off Margaret Taylor with 12 members, and one visitor present. Gay Salverda opened the meeting with a reading and Ida Leiper led in prayer. Ida Salverda read the scripture and Margaret Taylor gave two readings by Ethel Chap- man and Padre Young. Two readings were given by Gladys Leiper. Amelia Rice conducted the business. The roll call, and minutes were read. The Treasurer's report was given by Margaret Taylor. A thank you letter was read from Dorothy Tamblyn for the donation to the Londesboro Sunday School. There will be no bus going to Alma College. Hazel reported the window blind had been purchased for the Manse. The Bazaar will be held on October 12. A card was signed for Mr. and Mrs. Ed Salverda who will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on August 15. A get well card was signed for Gavin Leiper who is a pa- tient in St. Josephs Hospital, London.
