Reverend -'ick rete is , s t
give Huronview service
It was a good feeling this
Sunday morning, as we
welcomed Reverend Pick
back to the service, after his
absence due to illness. His
message dealt with "Duty
and Responsibility"- In
beautiful harmony, Elsie
Henderson and Mabel Scott
sang a lovely duet.An an-
them was sung by the choir.
Accompanist was Frank
Bissett.
The exceptionally warm
weather is still with us, and
Monday and Tuesday, the
residents for the most part
found relief under the trees.
Helen Bradley has been kept
busy, baking delicious
peanut butter and oatmeal
cookies. I have no idea as to
how many dozens she baked,
but they certainly taste
great with our coffee in the
morning.
Wednesday, our new van
arrived at Huronview.
Residents and staff were out
to give it the once over, and
it is a fine addition to Huron -
view. At the present time,
the fate of the old van which
served it's purpose well, is
not known.
Today is also "ice cream
cone day", and by all reports
sales are doing exceptionally
well. We are hoping it will
become a weekly affair.
Thursday afternoon, Ed
Stiles from Goderich was
here to entertain the
residents with his organ
playing.
Miss Margaret Mitchell, a
resident of Huronview, pass-
ed away this week. To
members of her family, we
extend our sincere sym-
pathy. To,the family of the
late Mrs. Hilda Bolt, also a
resident of Huronview, we
offer our sincere sympathy.
Hope you all have had a
pleasant weekend, and you
will be hearing from us
again in next week's edition.

Couple learns more about co-ops
A Varna couple spent three
days in July at a summer
camp just north of Orillia,
along with 20 other farm
couples.
The camp was actually the
Young Couples' Conference,
sponsored by United Co-
operatives of Ontario. The
couple was Ron and Peggy
Keys of R.R. 1 Varna.
The Keys couple was in-
vited to go on the conference
by the local UCO. They were
appreciative of the learning
experience offered to them
and the opportunity to meet
other people.
Peggy Keys explains that
most of the seminars during
the three-day conference
centred around co-ops. They
discussed the structure and
management of co-ops, and
their place in the com-
munity.
As well, they learned about
the process of marketing,
buying, selling and
distribution. There was a
seminar on changed at-
titudes about farming. Most
stressed in the workshops,
though, were leadership and
community involvement.
Peggy says they learned in
other ways as well. "It was
kind of a learning experience
talking to the other far-
mers." They met other
young couples from across
the province with the same
interests and experiences as,
themselves.
The Co-op also asked for
input from the couples at the
conference; opinions, and
suggestions on how to make
the Co-op work better and
help farmers more.
