Barbecue
Mr. and Mrs. James
Schneider and family hosted
the annual barbecue of the
Auburn and District Lions
Club at their home on
Goderich Street, last week.
Everyone was welcomed by
past president, James
Schneider and all barbecued
their steaks and partook of a
bountiful meal.
Special guests were the ex-
change students, Valerie
O'Leary of St. John, New
Brunswick and Huberta
Miklitsch of Vienna, Austria.
Gifts from Robinson's
general store were
presented by Bill Robinson
and from the Auburn and
District Lions Club by
Robert Worsell. Fred
Lawrence presented T-shirts
and plates from the Auburn
community. James
Schneider gave pins and Bill
Robinson gave cans of maple
syrup from Robinsons sugar
bush.
The new president,
Marinus Bakker took charge
and thanked Lion James for
his excellent attendance and
work the past year. He will
be presented with a plaque
at a future meeting. Lion
Marinus spoke to the guests
and assisted the girls in cut-
ting the horse-shoe cake with
the guests' names on it. Mrs.
Glen Webster had made and
decorated the cake. Each
girl served their host and
hostess, Valerie - Mr. and
Mrs. Fred Lawrene and
Huberta - Mr. and Mrs.
Walter March'.
A sing -song was enjoyed
with solos given by the
guests in their native
language.

Firemen
decide to
sound siren
LUCKNOW - Lucknow
District Fire Department
held a meeting at the
Lucknow firehall July 19 to
further discuss the ad-
vantages and disadvantages
of using the fireball siren in
conjunction with the pager
system.
Several of the firemen who
had not previously voiced
opinions in favor of con-
tinued use of the firehall
siren stated reasons sup-
porting the use of the siren.
It was decided the
department would sound the
firehall siren in the event of a
fire between the hours of 8
a.m. and 10 p.m. for a trial
period.
