CLINTON NEWS -RECORD, WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 23,1981—PAGE 3A
A Child Sceptic,
Bright and early Christmas morning
Little Jessie rose to see
What the contents of her stocking
Brought by Santa Claus might be.
How her laughing blue eyes sparkled
As she drew her treasures out!
How she danced with childish
pleasure
When her toys lay spread out.
But a shade of disappointnent
Spread across her chubby face,
And her merriment had vanished,
To reflection giving place.
Prompt to ascertain the cause;
Then she said with serious aspect,
"Pa, there ain't no Santa Claus."
"Though the things are nice and
pretty.
Still I'm awful sorry - 'cause
Tisn't Santa Claus that brings
them -
You and ma are Santa Claus."
What's thr. rn Iter?" T Pr'nuireri
Thus through life the old illusions
Fade out slowly one by one,
Are we happier or better
When the last of them are gone?

Christ was born
A special time
Christmas is a time of sharing, sharing happiness, nice
thoughts, joy and love. Just as Mary shared with Joseph.
Also for bright stars on the Christmas tree to remind us of
the star that guided shepherds and wisemen to the stable
in the small town of Bethlehem.
Christmas means to be united together with friends and
relatives like everyone united at the stable, also giving
with all your hearts, like the shepherds and wisemen and
understanding that that's all they have to give. Mary
understood when shepherds gave sheep. Christmas means
rejoicing so angels rejoiced when Jesus was born on this
very special day, December 25th, Christmas Day.

Christmas Poem
Christmas is the time when Christ was born,
On that always so beautiful Christmas morn.
We always think of him in our hearts,
Then On Christmas Eve we pray and pray.
But when Christmas is over the tree lights go down,
And the ticker for next Christmas is nicely wound,
And then the snow melts away and some summer:is show-
ing,
But then summer is going and once again the tree is glow-
ing.

Christmas
thoughts
Christmas luck; Omens
used in days long ago_
Clinton News -Record
December 26, 1935
Do you know that a full moon at
Christmas day is supposed to be unlucky,
thesaying going:
"Light Christmas, light wheatsheaf;
dark Christmas, heavy wheatsheaf," and
that a windy Christmas and a calm Can-
dlemas were held as amens of a good year.
Rain during the 12 days after Christmas
was said to foretell a wet year to follow.
When decorating the house with
Christmas holly, be careful not to burn any
leaves or berries that fall, but put them
carefully away until the 12th night, when
they should be burnt with the rest of the
decorations. Then luck and happiness will
follow; but if so much as .a holly leaf is
burned beforehand, you are courting
disaster, say the old-fashioned country
folk who set store .on Christmas omens.
Look to your fire on Christmas day, for if it
burns brightly it is a sign of prosperity; if;
however, when the fire is first lighted it
smoulders and refuses to "draw," set-
backs may be looked for during the year to
come.
Wear something new on Christmas day
if possible, "for luck," and be very careful
to put on rio garment with a hole or tear in
it, otherwise you will lose money. Also,
remember that the first words spoken in
the day should be cheerful; to speak a
word of grumbling is to court bad luck.
Ever thankful
for your
enduring faith
and trust. we
extend thanks
to our
cherished
patrons. May
the radiance of
His birth
illuminate
your holiday.
