custodians
settle
The Huron -Perth County
g. Catholic School Board ap-
proved the new salary con-
tract with 18 custodians in 19
schools in the system at a
board meeting Monday.
Thenew one-year con-
tract, which becomes effec-
tive July 1, will cost the
board an increase of 10.28
percent over the present con-
tract.
Ronald Marcy, Stratford,
chairman of the negotiating
committee for the board,
said it means a full-time
custodian with the board will
receive a salary of $15,750
ppegr year. He said most custo-
dians are part-time.
Whether a school requires a
' full-time custodian depends
on several factors, Marcy
explained, such as the size of
the school, the number of
pupils and teachers.
Immaculate Conception
School playground in Strat-
ford will become a communi-
ty playground and will be
open to the public after
school hours once play and
fitness equipment is in-
stalled this summer. The
equipment costing $3,640 will
be installed this summer.
Thee equipment, costing
$3,640 will be installed by the
Park Board in Stratford and
the school board will be
responsible for inspection
and maintenance.
Mike Dewan, school prin-
cipal at Immaculate Concep-
tion showed the board
members a miniature of the
equipment to be installed.
He said it would have great
value as a fitness program.
He explained that there was
a need for the playground in
the area and was the result
of planning by school staff, a
community parent group
and Stratford city clerk,
Ronald Schulties. The equip-
ment will be paid for by a
$1,000 donation from the
parent group at the school
and a provincial grant from
community services con-
tribution program of $2,640.
A fence will enclose the
area after the school board
adds a fence on the fourth
side, three sides are fenced
now.
The boardaccepted the
resignation of Mrs. Mary
Bannon who retires at the
end of June from Holy Name
of Mary School at St. Marys.
Hired as classroom teachers
are: Sister Maureen O'Reil-
ly at St. Mary's, Goderich;
Sister Colleen O'Reilly at
Holy Name of Mary, St.
Marys and Loretta Ayotte at
''Ecole Ste Marie at St.
Joseph, all effective
September 1981.
The board approved
playground equipment
costing over $3,000 for St.
Columban School.

Eckert, discussed with
board members the Discus-
sion Paper on Secondary
Education Review Project
put out by the Ministry of
Education. He spoke of
several ways it affected
separate elementary schools
such as those in Huron and
Perth.
Ronald Marcy pointed out
the ministry recommenda-
tion calling for the sharing of
schools by the public school
boards and the separate
school boards and in par-,
ticular the sharing of
technical facilities, expen-
sive to duplicate. Mr. Mc-
Cauley
o-Cauley reported that the
Huron -Perth administrative

staff and board had submit-
ted a suggestion that is being
considered for extending the
two year occupational
course in secondary schools
to a four-year course to
make it more useful to the
student.
