Ids birthday
Last Sunday was Lord
Baden Powell's biatlhday. Re
was born on February 22,
185l and died in January 1941
in Kenya, Africa at the age of
r'Each February members
of the Scott end Gn
celebrate his birthday. In
doing this, they honor an
inheritance that adds
meaning to their lives.
In one of Lord Powell's last
letters to Scouts and Guides
in the world he wrote, "I
have had a most happy life
and I want each one of you to
have as happy a life too. I
believe that God put us in the
world to be happy and enjoy
life.
"One step towards hap-
piness is to make yourself
healthy and strong while you
are young so that you can be
useful, and so enjoy life when
you are an adult. Nature
study will show how full of
beautiful and wonderful
things God has made the
world for you to enjoy.
"Be contented with what
you have and make the most
of it. Look on the bright side
e
of things instead of the
gloomy one, but the real way
to get happiness is by giving
happiness to other people.
Try and leave this world a
little better than you found it,
and when your turn comes to
die, you can die happy in the
feeling that at any rate you
have not wasted your time,
but have done your best.
• "Be prepared -in the way -to -
live happy and die happy;
stick to your promise
always, even after you have
ceased to be a young person
and God will help you to do
it."
