Exams Held
Eighty-four piano students
from the area studying with
the Royal Conservatory of
Music, Toronto, were ex-
amined by Mr. Eric
Medhurst at the Blyth Cen-
tre for three and a half days
Last week.
The United Church piano
was used for these exams.
Mrs. Shirley Vincent, co-
ordinator, arranged a
meeting last Wednesday
night for all piano teachers
of the area with Mr.
Medhurst at the church who
gave them much valuable
help. At the close of the
meeting, Susan Howson,
leader of the UCW Evening
Unit, served refreshments,
an act of appreciation for a
generous donation to her unit
— the voluntary offering
taken at Mrs. Vincent's
recital earlier this spring.
Blyth United Church
The Father's Day service
was conducted by the
minister, Mr. George Cowan
and the organist and choir
leader Mrs. Donald Kai. The
children's story was on The
Three Kind Dads, and his
sermon was The Salt of the
Earth.

Senior Citizen's Week in
Ontario is June 19th to June
26th. Because this has been
declared Senior Citizen's
Week, we have been asked
by Rita Rice, Director of the
Wingham and Area Day Cen-
tre for the Homebound, to re-
mind you again of the fine
work that is being done in
this area for Homebound
Seniors. Much of this work is
voluntary. Perhaps some
senior here in our communi-
ty is in need of such a day
program.
inona _McDougall
hosts music recital
By Meida McElroy
Mrs. Winona McDougall,
senior music teacher of
Huron County, opened her
home again this year for her
piano and vocal recital held
on June 19.
Winona's witty and off-
hand remarks between
numbers always create a
cozy, relaxed atmosphere
for both participants and
listeners.
Guests attending were
Louise Buttel, Isobel Fox,
Steven Spart)ng, Dr. John
McDougall and wife Margo
of London and parents and
grandparents.
At the close, students serv-
ed punch, cookies and
squares which they had
made themselves.
Two former students now
in 2nd and 3rd year in the
Faculty of Music at the
University of Western On-
tario were on the program:
Kim Craig in fine voice sang,
To be Near Thee, and Eric
Street showed confidence at
the keyboard in his Military
Polonaise by Chopin as well
as diversity of ability in a
number of his own composi-
tion which was requested.

ly runs in the second number
of Rosemary Crosthwaite of
Bayfield delighted her
listeners. She plays as if she
loves every key touched or
struck.
Ruth Ann Watts of
Brussels and Suzanne Alton
of Lucknow each showed
much talent in both their
vocal and piano numbers.
Amanda Snell's poise, con-
sidering the short time she
has been studying vocal, was
amazing in her solo, I'll
Walk with God.
Valerie Wasson provided
effective guitar accompani-
ment for her two numbers
which enhanced the message
especially in Killing Me Soft-
ly with Your Song.
Ruth Alton of Lucknow
who obtained first class
honors in her Grade X vocal
exam last January thrilled
her audience with a profes-
sional performance in My
Tribute and Climb Every
Mountain. Ruth teaches
music in Brookside school as
well as giving private
lessons. Both her singing and
that of her daughter Suzanne
were two highlights of this
year's McDougall recital.
