Council requests clean up of two properties
By Hilts
Last week Blyth council
received letters of complaint
concerning two "eyesores"
in the village.
Council received a letter
from surrounding residents
of Mrs. Edith Button on Mill
Street. According to the
letter, the neighbors were
concerned about a foun-
dation at the rear of Mr.
Button's house that poses a
(ranger to children in the
area. There is top soil
located at the side of the
foundation but efforts to
level it out have not been
carried out. The letter went
on to say that the foundation
is the home of ground hogs
and skunks, animals that
could be rabid.
Council has sent out a
request to Mrs. Button that
the property be cleaned up.

Council also sent out a
request for clean up to Brian
Marks on King St.
According to Clerk Larry
Walsh, a barn on the Marks
pro ,s.• rty was torn down but
the debris was not cleaned
up. A tree is also down on the
property and council is
requesting that it be cleaned
up.
The Village of Blyth has a
property standards bylaw
stating that all properties
must be kept up to the
standards of neighboring
lots. If this isn't done, the
village has the right to make
the necessary clean up, at
the expense of the individual
property owner.
In other business, council
was informed that Ken
Hesselwood's land severence
for a car wash was approved
by the county planning
board.
The car wash will be
located beside the Triple K
Restaurant and construction
will begin pending an
amendment to the present
zoning on the property. The
lot is zoned for a parking lot
and Mr. Hesselwood must
obtain an amendment to spot
zone for a business.
Memorial Hall battle
Council's continuing battle
over the payment of repairs
made to the Blyth Memorial
Hall heating system has
reached a road block.
At the May 2 meeting,
council decided they would
like to see copies of the
letters Hill and Borgal
Architects had sent to
Weishar Plumbing and
Heating. The letters were
written to explain that the
village was holding the
company responsible for the
bills for the repair of the
heating system.
On May 20, council
received word from Chris
Borgal that Welsher had
contacted and presented all
the facts to Dave Wolfe, the
engineer in charge of the
installation. Weisher said
Wolfe was no longer with the
firm and is now living in
Edmonton.
Council has decided to
consult with their lawyer
before proceeding any
further.
Grants . sued
Council passed a motion to
grant a donation for $100 to
the Goderich and District
Association for the Mentally
Retarded. Last year council
donated the same amount.
A grant of $3,250 was also
given to the Blyth and
District Community Centres
Board.
Levy accepted
Council approved the June
payment of the Huron
County Board of Education
levy of $33,065. Blyth's total
share of the budget is
$119,717. In March, the
village paid $26,929 toward
the total levy.
The total 1983 bu a et of the
Huron County Board of
Education is $35,264,154, a
figure that has brought about
wide spread controversy in
many local municipalities.
The budget is up 9.8 per
cent from 1982 and 69 per
cent from 1979.
Retirement party held
By Sheron Stadelmann
