WINGHAM - A crew of
painters hired under a joint
federal- provincial make
work program is sprucing up
a number of municipal
buildings m Wingham this
spring.
The auditorium upstairs in
the Town Hall has been the
first to benefit from the
attention, its drabness
relieved by panels newly
painted in contrasting
shades of brown, white and
tan.
Also on the list for a new
coat of paint are the arena
interior and dressing rooms,
the Centennial pool,
bleachers at the ball park,
fire hydrants and bridge
guard rails.
The crew was hired under
the auspices of the Canada -
Ontario Employment
Development Program,
Clerk -Treasurer Byron
Adams explained. This
scheme provides funding to
municipalities based on the
rate of unemployment in the
area.
Wingham was allocated
$15,000 to be used for wages,
with the town expected to put
up an aditional $5,000 for
materials. The money is to
be used for projects the
municipality would not other
wise get done.
Hospital sets
aside funds
WINGHAM - Aided by a
sparkling financial per-
formance during the past
year, the Wingham and
District Hospital has been
able to set aside a significant
sum of money for future
capital spending, including
the planned $1.4 million
expansion of emergency,
outpatient and X-ray
departments.
The financial statement to
be presented at the annual
meeting of the hospital
association June 16 will
recommend appropriating
for capital projects some
$645,000 in donations and
interest income which has
accumulated over the past 24
years.
The statement will also
show a surplus on operations
of $155,000 for 1982-83, off-
setting the previous year's
operating deficit of $152,000.
Survey
done
MITCHELL - About 2,000
people hi Mitchell and
Townships of Fullarton,
Hibbert and Logan in the age
group of 58 and over will
receive an important
questionaire in the mail this
week.
It's the first part of a
feasibility study being done
at the Ritz Lutheran Villa
this summer to determine if
there is a need for a 25 -unit
senior citizens' apartment
complex on the grounds
adjacent to the Villa. The
Villa has obtained a grant of
$6,500 from Canada Mor-
tgage and Housing Cor-
poration for the project.
Villa administrator Brock
Hall says there are about 40
questions on the
questionaire. and that it will
take about 15 minutes to
complete it CMHC have
required the questionaire be
distributed to establish if
there is a need for this type
of housing in Mitchell.
