Chess and Checkers
Tonna/meat
A Chess and Checkers
Tournament among the 19
schools of the Huron -Perth
Board was held at Stratford
on April 27.
Sing To Phannavong
placed second in the Junior
Checkers competition and To
Sombath Phongsa placed
third in that event.
Ron Cook placed fourth in
the Junior Chess competition
and Gavin McClenaghan
placed fifth. Thanks to Percy
McClenaghan who drove the
competitors to Stratford.

Trip
Grades 5 to 8 -will be
travelling to Toronto on May
30, to the Royal Ontario
Museum to view exhibitions
including the renowned
exhibition "In Search of
Alexander."
They will also travel to
Black Creek Pioneer Village
Pre -School Bus
Safety Program
The pre-school bus safety
program will take place at
the school at 1:15 p.m. on
June 7.
The Safety Officer from
the Goderich detachment of
the O.P.P. will provide the
instruction. The children and
their parents will experience
a ride on the school bus.
Kindergarten Orientation
Kindergarten Orientation
Day will be held in the
morning June 15 for children
starting Kindergarten in
September.
The children may come to
school on the bus with older
sisters or brothers where
appropriate. They will be
bringing their lunch too.
They will experience a
morning's activities with the
Kindergarten class and
parents will be expected to
pick them up between 12:45
and 1:00 p.m.
Driveway in Front
of School
The Huron -Perth Board
has approved the installation
of a driveway on school
property that will allow the
school buses to make a
complete turn without
having to back into the
driveway.
This procedure will result
in improved safety for all
students.
School Secretary
School secretary, Mrs.
Isabel Mitchell, will be
retiring at the end of June
this year. St. Joseph's thanks
her for her years of service
to the staff, students and
parents at the school.

Sweeney who placed second
and third respectively in the
Grades 5 - 6 division of the
Seventh Annual Art Contest
sponsored by the Stratford
and District Pro life.

Staff Changes for
1983-84 School Year
The Huron -Perth Roman
Catholic Separate School
Board has just announced
staff changes for the coming
year.
St. Joseph's will be losing
one full time and two part-
time teachers this year.
Mrs. Linda Kistner -
teacher in the Special
Education classroom has
accepted a position as
Resource Teacher for
Enrichment Programs. A
replacement teacher has not
yet been .^P.,ntod for this
classroom.
Mrs. Helen VanBakel,
principal's relief (half tirne)
who presently teaches M the
Grades 5-6 classroom will be
moving to SL Patrick's in
Dublin where she will be
teaching Kindergarten.
Mrs. Yaga Mclnnes, the
French teacher, will be
going to St. Columban and
St. Patrick's, Dublin, instead
of Clinton and St. Columban.
The staff and students will
miss all three teachers. They
are wished well in their new
positions.
St. Joseph's will be
receiving Mrs. Doreen
Nogalo who will be the
Kindergarten teacher. She
returns to St. Joseph's after
four years at St. Patrick's in
Dublin.
Mrs. ,June Holmes will
take Mrs. Helen VanBakel's
place in Grades 5 and 6 as
principal's relief,
Mrs Karen Cleary who
presently teaches French at
St. Mary's in Goderich will
be the French teacher next
year.
