Council a;1 roves endment By Wilma Oke Tuckersmith Township council approved an amendment May 3 to the zoning of the old arena building at Vanastra from institutional to industrial. Bud Boyes and Peter Oud, who had requested the change, were present at the meeting as well as a number of other interested ratepayers. Wayne Caldwell of the Huron County Planning Department was at the meeting for further discussion on the Secondary Plan for the township. Kenneth Smith of Egmondville attended the meeting to ask council to consider providing water for householders living south of the Bayfield River bridge in Egmondville. The area is experiencing some water problems. Council will in- vestigate the possibilities. Involved are seven householders and 16 vacant lots. Council re -appointed Joseph Gibson of R.R. 2, Seaforth as weed inspector for the township for 1983. He is the weed inspector for Huron County as well. Passed for payment were the following accounts totalling $51,430.66: Day ('are ('entre at Vanastra, $6,184.00; Special Day Care ('entre at Vanastra, $4,245.09; Vanastra Recreation ('entre, $15,757.42; roads, $11,859.20: and general accounts, $13,384.95. Two tile drainage loan applications were approved for $12,300. They have had a special "PET" in their classroom this week. It is a Commodore Pet computer. The children have enjoyed using it to practise their number recognition and counting skills_ May 2 was spent discuss- ing how important Mother is and why we have Mother's Day. In the discussion about why Mothers are important the children were asked to tell one thing that makes their Mother very special to them. Did You know? Terri Wheeler has moved from Goderich and has started attending the Kindergarten class. Coag Events The Kindergarten class will be planting a rnini- 9 S co O ki garden in their classroom as a follow up to the unit on spr- ing. They will be ha v ing a special hat day so parents can be looking around their house for a "different" one for their child to wear. More information will be sent home concerrung this. As they inl:rease, interest costs increase, says ac- countant Archie Leach of Atkinson, Leach and Neill, "therefore it's a very significant number to follow." A six year review of town finances shows 1977 tax arrears at $16.25 per person. Last year they were $44.53. Back in 1977, arrears were just 6.59 per cent of the total tax le'y; in 1982 they were 12.91 per cent.
