(Shelley Mci•'hee photo) J"l t fr'n stu s. encs ill visit '' frli eat Hill Bill Jewitt and Karen Cook, from Cen- tral Huron Secondary School in Clinton will be among the hundreds off high school students who will participate in the Forum for Young Canadians program. Each year, the Forum for Young Cana- dians brings to the Nation's Capital, from every province and territory h Canada, four hundred students who will be given the opportunity to discuss the processes of government with those who are in decision-making positions. The students selected to participate in the Forum for Young Cana'ans' unique educational program are provided the rare privilege of sitting in the House of Commons and in the Senate. They will be visiting the Supreme Court of Canada and will be participating in a mock Cabinet discussion on immigration as well as stag- ing a Federal -Provincial Conference. By the end of their one-week program, the students would have learned about the difficulties and complexities of how their government operates and will have ac- quired a better understanding of their fellow Canadians from across the land. A Grade 11 student at CHSS, Bill is one of two students from Huron County who will be taking part in the first session. Robert Thompson spent his winter break last week visiting with his sister, brother-in-law and family Barry and Betty Powley, Jason, Jonathan and Mandy of Sardis, B.C. Sympathy is extended from the community to the Armstrong and Carter families on the passing of Mrs. Jack Armstrong of Londesboro and Ella Munro of Seaforth. Clint and Doreen Wilson of R.R. 3 Blyth and John and Carolyn Thompson returned home on Thursday from a trip to New Orleans in their Winn-a-bago. Harvey Hoggart, Pam and Sherry attended the Quarter- rama in Toronto. Harvey with his horse Saucy Joe won a first in the pick-up race and came home with two nice trophies and he also got seventh in the flag race. Congratulations! Mrs. J. Merner of Kit- chener visited on the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Carl Merner, Sandy, Julie, Mike and Shelley. Congratulations go out from the community to Mary and Mansel ('ook of Blyth who celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on March 15. They were former residents of the north line. nst in another excursion in June. She is the daughter of Murray and Joyce Cook of Clinton. ill and Karen were chosen by the CHSS history department to take part in the Young Canadians Forum. Top students, they are both active in many school clubs and community events. Both are members of the student's council and Karen is the fund raising chairperson. She's also a familiar face in the Clinton Fi re Skating Club. Bill belongs to the CHSS assembly, the school choir, drama club and the newspaper. He also sings in the Lon- desboro United Church Choir and is a member of the Huron -Bruce Liberal Association. To take part in the Forum, both had to raise the $410 registration fee. Bill received support from: the Huron -Bruce Liberals, $100; MPP Murray Elston, $30; Londesboro Lions, $50; Kinburn Forresters, $50. His parents help -r to finance the $85 travelling expenses but Bill said that the cost was worth the trip. Karen's sponsors were: Clinton Lions, $100; Clinton Legion, $250; LODE Sarah Hale Chapter, $50. Both Karen and Bill are eagerly looking forward to this once-in-a-lifetime learning experience. They're proud to be representing Huron County and the school at the Forum. The annual song fest will be held April 17 in Londesboro Church when a good musical presentation will be provided. An anthem was sung by a children's chorus including Denise Hulley, Melanie Knox, Sara Lyons, Shelley Merner, Joanne Wilts, Elizabeth Swan and Tanury Cousinea u. Cheerio Club The Cheerio Club met March 15 at the home of Beth Knox. Beth welcomed all. Helen Lawson thanked everyone for cards sent to her. A draw, donated by Beth Knox, was won by Stella Adams. The next meeting with Group 4 in charge is on April 20. WI Meet The W.I. Educational meeting was held on March 16. A minute's silence was held for Gladys Armstrong, a life member who died on March 7. Correspondence in- cluded an invitation to Tiger Dunlop April 13 meeting at 1:30 p.m. The executive meeting is April 4 at St. Helens and the Sunshine Sister Banquet and annual meeting will be held on April 13. Committee members are Beth Knox and Dora Shobbrook. Genevieve Allen reported on the Genealogical society meeting in Goderich wvhgn, Tweedsmuir books were on display. It was decided to have them on display at Hullett Township Day. The next card party is March 31.
