On March 9 students from
Blyth Public School travell-
ed to Brookside School to
compete in their first ever
Table -tennis tournament.
Four schools competed w
the play; - Blyth, Brookside,
East Wawanosh, and Ripley,
and six students from each
school took part.
Four of the six Blyth
students had a perfect day in
the round robin contest; -
Lori Leibold, Brent!
Scrimgeour, Lori Appleby,
and John Leibold won their
divisions with perfect
records. Brend Scrimgeour
played in the match of the
day by defeating Brad
Knechtal of Ripley in a
match that required 18 extra
points.
The two other Blyth com-
petitors also did well, grabb-
ing second place in their
respective divisions. Joe
Is excel
Holmes got seven of a possi-
ble nine points, and Shivon
Youngblut got five of nine
points. Joe had a very tough
match to end the day, losing
21-18 and 21-19 to Walter
Martin of Brookside, in a
match that was for the
championship.
Overall standings for the
clay were; 1st Blyth - 48
points; 2nd Brookside - 36
points; 3rd Ripley - 34
points; 4th East Wawanosh -
26 points.
A Fire Prevention Poster
contest was sponsored by the
Blyth Firemen. Grade 5
students participated and
the following winners were
selected. Girls - 1st, Kim
Medd; 2nd, Kerry McClin-
chey; Boys - 1st, Kelly Sills;
2nd Johnny Nesbit.

at the Blyth School on March

service were the superb
singing of the Mitchell High

address of Dr. Bob McClure,
a past moderator of the U.C.
and medical missionary who
spoke to a packed sanctuary.

Margaret Brooks at Avon
Park, Florida, were their

Commerce moving
to new premises
Blyth, Ontario — Canadian
Imperial Bank of Commerce
announced today that it will
be moving to new premises
at the corner of Queens and
Drummond Streets this
weekend to be ready for
business on Monday, March
21, 1983.
An official opening and
open house will be held on
Saturday, March 26, 1983, at
2 p.m. to give customers an
opportunity to view the new
facility.
Designed to blend into the
existing village en-
vironment the new building
provides a total area of 3,400
square feet, triple the size of
the old branch premises
which are located one block
south. The bank says it has
invested over $300,000 into
the premises which will
serve current and future
individual as well as
agricultural banking needs
in the area,
Nith Valley Construction
of New Hamburg was the
general contractor and the
building was designed by
Norbert J. Schuller,
Architects, London.
Abundance of animals
We are told that there are
at present, owned and em-
ployed in Blyth, upwards of
100 horses and three and four
yoke of oxen, and room for
more. What village in
Canada, of the same size,

Following the dinner Mrs.
Harold Campbell sang two

piano by Mrs. Hazel Dalrym-
ple.
A short program followed.
A donation was made to the
Belgrave school fair and the
4-H groups. The WI will
cater the April 6th Hosie
Makers annual meeting.
A Work Shop for simple
home repairs will be held in
Walton, Holmesville and
Wingham in April.

with Mrs. Roy Burchill corn-
menting. Mr. and Mrs. Roy
Burchill and Miss Elaine
Snell spent three weeks in
Haiti in Feb. 1982.
The next meeting will be in
charge of the Executive with
reports of standing cominit-
tees. Roll call will ask for a
suggestion for this year's
program. It will be an even-
ing meeting April 7th at 8
p.m.
Lowest rise
in five years
WINGHAM - Property taxes
in Wingham will rise by only
five per cent this year, under
a proposed budget which was
adopted by town council on
March 7.
This increase is the lowest
since 1978 when the increase
also was five per cent. Since
then taxes have gone up by
10.5 per cent (1979), 8.4 per
cent (1980), 14.6 per cent
(1981) and 10.5 per rent
(1982) .
Finance Chairman Jack
Kopas said a number of
factors have contributed to
hold down the tax increase.
One is the provincial in-
flation restraint program,
