During those three short years, the ranch has aac coaaaphshed a great many things to assist those researching their families in Huron County : regular monthly meetings feature guest speakers on genealogical topics and provide a forum for the exchange of ideas and in- formation; research is done as extensively as possible for out off county (and often out of country) members; the Branch genealogical library has grown extensively through donations and purchases and is of great assistance to researchers; a very informative bulletin is published three times yearly and 22 cemeteries have been completed and published with another 27 in process. Membership has grown from 18 at the formation meeting to over 200, spread across Canada and the U.S. and as far away as Hawaii. An annual genealogical workshop is held each September with the fourth annual currently in the planning stages for Sep- tember 1983. This year, a "Beginner's Night" is being held in conjunction with the April meeting and it is hoped that this too will become an annual event. All this has been made possible through the com- bined talent, hard work and generosity of volunteered time from caring members of the group and chairman Carole Robinson thanked all for their assistance with special thanks to Ruth Ann Chapman (Co -Founder and Programs), Alison Lobb (Bulletin and Cemeteries), Yvonne Porter (Library), Marg Cook (Membership), Eleanor Williams (Fund Raising), Marg Rutledge We Buy and Sell used Pocketbooks! World Day of Prayer held in Clinton church The World Day of Prayer was held on March 4 at Wesley Willis United Church in Clinton. Everyone present was welcomed by Mrs. Peg- gie Menzies. Representatives from nine churches in the Clinton area participated in the Service with readings and prayers - following the Service as put out by the International World Day of Prayer Com- mittee. The Theme was "New Persons in Christ" written by Missionary Women of the Caribbean. Marilyn Parr introduced the guest speakers - Eunice Russel and Sandy Hegernan. Eunice Russel, a nurse from Toronto, visited the Caribbean for seven weeks in 1972, for one year in 1974, and in November 1981 spent a month on the island of Dominica. She told how Christianity was changing the lives of many of the Caribbean people. Mrs. Hageman spoke on the same theme, using a photographic picture of five Caribbean women - telling of their hardships and pro- blems they were forced to endure, but how they became new persons when Christ entered their lives. Much information was gained by these excellent speakers. The Lord's Prayer was "fit b,' rl 6 1 1'- ' ti i ARJ. _I I :..,t ,I`. Sorority sisters, trom the Zeta Omega Chapter, met at the Huron Centre on February 22. Guest speaker for the evening was Nancy McLeod. Nancy is a family counsellor at the Huron Cen- tre, and a leader of the Systematic Training for Ef- fective Parenting group. Nancy gave a brief ex- planation about the S.T.E.P. program which will be held at the centre beginning in March. She then divided the women into groups accor- ding to their family posi- tions. Each group was asked to answer three questions. All the answers were in- teresting and varied from the oldest child feeling they were always handed respon- sibility but no authority, to the middle child feeling squeezed out, and the youngest never having any baby pictures. Nancy asked the women to consider their own families and how their children's family position reflected the group's feel- ings. She urged everyone to treat the kids fairly, but to remember their needs will differ because of their fami- ly positions. Nancy then led a short game, where everyone had to write positive feelings on a paper taped to the members back. All the women present enjoyed having Nancy McLeod as a guest speaker and found it interesting to visit the Huron Centre for Children and Youth. A busyness meeting was held with discussions on the Hospital Children's corner, a puppet workshop and a Ladies Night Out for sorority members.
