Le
sets new
date
t$eguuu ng with the next
meeting in February, La
Leche League in Hnnron
South will be holding their
regular series on the last
Thursday of each month.
This is a ma for change to the
group since its start over
five years ago. Hopefully
readers will mention this
date change to the other
mothers who are interested
in coming out to a LLL
meeting.
Nell DeJonge, of 260 Chur-
chill Drive in Exeter will be
offering her home for the
next series. February,
March and April's meetings
will be held in the morning at
9:30a. m. As with all LLL
functions small children and
of course nursing babies are
always welcome to come
along with mother.
Last month there was a
large gathering in Mitchell
who learned more about La
Leche League and the
criteria for becoming a
leader.
1983 will see the ninth in-
ternational conference of La
Leche League be held in
Kansas City. Princess Grace
of Monaco was the first
celebrity to publicly support
La Leche League and she
generously gave of her time
when breast feeding was not
a popular role to support.
Her strong belief in the nur-
turing role of breast feeding
and the importance of close
family ties echoes the
philosophy of La Leche
League. When she spoke at
the 1971 conference she ex-
plained, "As women, it is one
of our greatest prides that
we have in our bodies, to
give to our newborns every
element that an infant needs
for perfect health and
growth. The frantic life of
today has swept up women to
the point where either
because of difficulties im-
posed by overcrowding, the
necessity to hold down jobs,
or even their own lack of m-
clination, they feel that there
is not time for this vital func-
tion. I have many duties and
obligations of state along
with my husband, but my
family comes first. At the
beginning, when they first
needed me and I them, there
were no compromises, State
had to wait upon mother.
And if in my free time, I had
to work a little harder to
make up; that work became
a pleasure for the sake of the
newborn,"
With the death of Princess
Grace four months ago LLL
lost much more than just a
supporter, but a dear friend
as well. A transcript of Her
Highness' speech is
available from I.LL for a
nominal sum.
Any woman wanting more
information about La Leche
League or having questions
about breast feeding, is
welcome to call the local
leader, Janis Bisback, in
Hensall telephone 262-3505.
