The Clinton Recreation
Committee last Thursday
gave parks chairman Dean
Reid the go-ahead to find out
what it would cost to build a
new swimming pool in
Clinton.
Reid told the committee
that the filtration system is,
"rotten, the deck is badly
cracked, the piping system is
decayed and the pool itself is
cracked."
Goderich Township Reeve
Gerry Ginn accepted the
warden's pin following the
election in Huron County
council chambers last week.
He succeeds Doug McNeil.

January 18, 1973
For the first time in 15
years, Charlie McNaughton
will be able to let his hair
down after serving both the
people of Ontario and the
Huron riding. He announced
his retirement last week
from his cabinet post and
Huron seat in the legislature
after serving a recond nine
portfolios.
A memorial Amplifying
Chime System has been
installed in the Londesboro
United Church. The system
was provided through a
Memorial Fund, set up in
1971.

January 16, 1958
Overcrowding is once
more becoming serious at
the Clinton Public School.
Enrolment according to
Principal J.A. Gray's report
is now 487 pupils, 25 more
than in September of 1957. To
alleviate the situation, next
year, the board is planning to
shift the kindergarten
classes to the school
auditorium in order to have
the extra classroom for other
grades.
Ivan McCllymont of Varna
was elected president of the
Clinton Junior Farmers at
the annual meeting held in
Clinton.

January 19, 1933
Charlie Koo, who has been
running the Rido cafe for
over a year, slipped quietly
out of town last week without
bidding all his friends
goodbye. He sent the key of
hid cafe to Lawyer Fingland,
telling_ him to sell the con-
tents and pay as far as funds
would go but, unfortunately,
the contents are not
numerous enough nor
valuable enough to get very
far toward liquidating the
debts incurred.

A meeting of staunch
Temperance men interested
in the success of L.ondesborb
Option was held in Lon-
desboro last Friday. A
committee was appointed to
confer with Mr. Bruce, the
owner of the hotel, to
ascertain what price he
would dispose of the
property. Mr. Bruce stated
that the hotel had cost him
$5,000 four years ago, but
that he would accept $2,300.
The committee reported
progress and the offer was
accepted. It was decided to
form a joint stock company
to raise capital for the
purchase.
A preventative as well as a
cure for smallpox is: ounce
of cream of tartar dissolved
in a pint of boiling water, to
be drunk when cold and at
short intervals. Can be taken
at any time.

January 19 1883
in Blyth tie :uneral of
John Newcombe took place
on Wednesday, and his
funeral sermon will be
preached next Sabbath
morning, in the Methodist
Church. The medical men
held a post morteum
examination over his
remains, a Law suit pending
upon the hurt he received
over a year ago, when
another individual is said to
have kicked him, and from
the effects of which he is said
to have died.
A fanner of Hullett, who
resides within four miles of
Clinton, stopped overnight
here last Friday, being the
first night he had remained
In town for 34 years The one
other occasion when he slept
in town was when he came
west to look for land
.John Leslie has purchased
the old Mountcastle corner
on Huron Street and will
convert the building into a
waggon shop There should
be room for three shops in a
place of this size
