A number from the village and surrounding country attended the funeral of the late John White, of Exeter, on Monday of last week. Mr. White was well and favorably known in our village, hav- ing made weekly trips to our village when it was in its infancy, in the in- terests of his paper tied he will be greatly missed by many readers of THE TlMEs in this section. The de- ceased was possessed of great energy and ambition coupled with good abil- ity and as founder and Editor of The Times, be was actively engaged as far as his advancing years and strength would permit in his duties up to with- in about a week of his decease, the heavier share of the business being at- tended to by his son, Millar J. White, who has for many years proved an able associate Editor and Manager. We write in sympathy with the be- reaved widow and members of thefam- ily in their hour of affliction. -Mrs. R. E. Sheffer was in Clinton on Wednesday last. -A very happy event took place at the home of Andrew Johnston, Willow Hall farm, on Tues- day afternoon last, when his third daughter, miss Hattie, was united in the bonds of matrihnony to Mr. R. J. Ferguson, merchant of Cookston, Minn. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. W. J. Doherty, of St. Paul's church, in the presence of the immediate relatives of the contracting parties. The bride was very hand- somely attired and carried a shower boquet of roses. The little maids of honor, nieces of the bride, looked very sweet. The happy couple after re- ceiving the warmest congratulations of all present and partaking of a most sumptuous dinner took the five o'clock express for their home in, Minnesota. There was a very large gathering at the station to see the happy couple off, the bride being a great favorite, and as they stepped on the train they were literally deluged with showers of rice and eel. kinds of good wishes for their future happiness of prosperity, - The annual -meeting of Carmel Presby- terian church was held at the close of the weekly prayer meeting on Wed- nesday evening of last week.
