The Suncoast Estates
Atoms lost two league games
on the Weekend, dropping a 4-
2 decision here 'Saturday to
the Kincardine Beavers and
losing 5-1 to Walkerton,
Sunday, in Walkerton.
The Suns were outhustled
by Kincardine. The Beavers
showed more desire and
defensive lapses hurt the
Sun's chances.
Goderich opened the
scoring when John Thompson
connected after getting a pass
from Brad Armstrong.
Kincardine tied the score only
34 seconds, later when Dean
Elliott beat Jeff Denomme in
the Sun's net.
Each team scored once in
the second period. Ricky
Young got the Goderich goal
while Ed de la Paz replied for
Kincardine.
De la Paz and Dave Pet-
teplace scored the only goals
of the third period to give the
Beavers the win, their third in
six starts. The loss evened
t'he suns' league record at two
wins and two losses.
Against Walkerton, the
Suns gave a good effort and
had their chances, but could
not make them pay off. The
teams were scoreless after
one period but Walkerton
scored three quick goals to
open up a three goal lead
before Sun's captain David
Gallow scored on a
breakaway midway through
thesecond period.

seventh win of the schedule.
They are undefeated in eight
games, with a 1-1 tie in Port
Elgin the only blemish on
their perfect record,
Kevin Weber with two goals
and Paul Snodgrass, Mike
Berberich and Britt
Schuknecht with one goal
each, were the Walkerton
marksmen.
In an exhibition game in
Blyth Monday night, the Suns
went on a scoring binge,
blasting Blyth 8-2,
Blyth led 1-0 after the first
period on Paul Pierce' goal,
but. the Suns scored five times
in the second period to take
command. Goderich added
three more ill the third period
while Kent Howatt' got the
other Blyth goal.
Brad Armstrong and Dave
Gallow were each two goal
scorers for Goderich. Daryl
Madge, John Thompson.
Mark Crawford and David
Day each scored once for the
Suns, Kent'`Feagan had two
assists, with one assist each
going to Mark Crawford, Paul
Day, Daryl Madge, David
Day and Ricky Young„,
The Suns have a busy•week
corning up. Saturday at 5
p.m. they will take on
Hanover 'here in a league
game, Sunday, coach
Richard Madge takes his
team to Exeter for an
exhibition fixture, and next.
Wednesday the Suns travel to
Hanover for a rematch with -
the Hanover Atoms.
Midgets split pair,
lose first of season

_ Jost their first game of the
regular season schedule last
Wednesday in ,Port Elgin, by
a score of -2. .
'The Twins went into. the
'- I' igaine• thinking they had, it
won .by just appearing on the'
ice, but Port Elgin had the
desire to be Victorious. The
Goderich Twins 'were,not
back checking, this, reslted
in Port Elgin. taking a 3-0
lead; before the sew& r period
ended.
r . Paul McKinnon beat Tony
Bedard for Ltwo goals and
Peter'Rodger got the single.
Port Elgin went ahead 5-0
early in the final period as
Goderich "(vere caught up the
ice' and • Tony • •Bedard had
Tittle chance on the goals that
were, scored. Ed Courtney
finally put the Twins on 'the
score :board as he picked .up

beat Lance Gibbons. Then
Tim McLean made it,`5-2 for
the Twins only other goal with
Bill Walters assisting.
Port Elgin finished strong
picking up two more goals,
one on a power play as the
Twins had a. total of 50
minutes in. penalties in the
game.
In Saturday',s contest
against Kincardine, Goderich
playedtwo-way hockey and
came through with a well
earned victory as theyheld on
to defeat Kincardine 4-1.
Paul Schaeffer set up Paul
Dougherty to open the scoring
at 3:16 and before the period
ended, Tim McLean beat
Kincardine's goaltender John
Maus letting one go from just
inside the hlueline. The
Twins went ahead 3-0 on a
secondperiod goal by Paul
Schaeffer unassisted. Bill
Walters combined with Don
K irkconnell making it 4-0.
.Then Goderich- ran into a
rash of unnecessary
penalties, this effecting the
"whole team. As three players
were thrown out of the game
for., various reasons, which
meant. Paul ;Schaeffer and
Dale Duncan were pressed
into extra ice time and came
up with their best game of the
season doing an excellent job
filling in_ on two shifts.
Spoiling John Page's shutout'
was Joe Kagtot.h who com-
bined with Steve Petrie and
Don Wolferton to get Kin-
cardine's only'goal'late in the
final period.
