COUNTRY CLUB The curling season got off to a great start last Thursday evening with the ladies opening jitney. They weren't able to curl but everyone enjoyed a fun time and a delicious meal prepared by Mrs. Miller. . Two curling .films were shown thanks to Bill Par- tridge, Sandi Davidson, Doug Bundy and Beryl Harper. Tickets were sold on a floral arrangement ' and 'Hazel Beaver was the lucky winner. Friday even''ing the men had their opening with a good turh out. There were 10 tables of euchre players - lots of prizes, good food and fun. John Sekneiker won the curling broom.° Hopefully the ice will be ready for curling tonight. The two winners were selected by umpire Jim McWhinney who officiated at. most of the Goderich home games. The 'Striking Six captained by Glen Lamb has claimed 13 of a possible 14 points to earn sole possession of first place. They would have a clean sweep but for a rare tie game whichoccurred in the first game .Sunday night, November -a. The Striking Six and Jack Thom's Go Devils each counted 941 pins to post the tie. Hermie and Aisla Fisher of the Go Devils produced most of the opposition to -the Striking Six with a combined triple of 1037 pins, but ex- cellent bowling by Glen Webster and Glen . Lamb _proved to be too much. Glen Lamb also had the high men's single of 259 and the high triple, of 686 for the. night. Captain Bill Chisholm's team Elevens picked up five points Sunday night to take possession of second place with a total of ' 10. Ted and Sylvia Johnston were the big guns for the Elevens with triples of • 641 ' and 534 respectively. Bev Lindsay, captain of the and teammate Alfred Etzler combined good score to give their team one win. Sylvia Johnston was part of another tie Sunday night. Her high single of 223 was mat- ched by Marlene Black of the Hopefuls. The Hopefuls succeeded in taking five points out of seven in the match with the Green Hornets. Eric Miller and Doreen Willis both bowled above their _.average for captain Arlie Lochart but couldn't match the Hopefuls' Marlene` Black and 'Ben and Helen Straughan., Captain Nancy Willis of the Head Pinners produced the' ladies high triple of the - evening, a 605, to lead her team to a two game victory over , the " Ding Dongs. Teammates Jack Gilbert and Mary Bissett bowled above average triples to further their captain's efforts. Captain Flo Robinson of the Ding Dongs provided most of the opposition. Rod Johnston's Ram Rods made a clean sweep of seven points from Doug Fuller's, Creepers: Rod and Lucy Johnston combined to knock down 1101 pins to provide the backbone of their. team's effort.
