During 25 years of service
to gthers, the members of The
Helping Hands Club ' hai;e
assisted in many ways. Last
week, they celebrated a
quarter century 9f caring at a
special meeting at the home
of Mr. and' Mrs.' Harold
Johnstone.
Through the years, this
group has given a helping
hand to the Scott Mission,
Care, retarded children, fire
victims and missionaries. ,
In the past year alone. The
Achievement
Day set

The annual
Achievement night will be
held this coming Friday
night, November 7, 1975 at
Central Htiron econdary
School in Clinton. •
Len McGregor, 4-H 'ex-
tension representative for
Hur•an County, said the an-
nual night recognizes tb€
achievements of the dozens -of
4-H clubs involving h=undreds
of young men and women
throughout Huron County.
The awards might starts at.
8:00 p.m.. in the gymnasium
at Central Huron Secondary
School, and all parents and
friends dre invited to attend.
Helping Hands Club offered'
kindness int_the form of
money, clofhii , food or just
plain erring 7'88 times, They
also made 344 visyi,s to shutins
and patients in hospitals.
An important project of The
Ho'Imp Hand ('Ilii, i' to
assist the workshop for
retarded adults where Mrs.
F.�elyn Carroll is in charge.
Mrs, Carroll was a special
guest at the meeting' and
received a gift for the
workshop.
Other special guests in-
cluded Mrs, Nora Fitz-
simmons and son Brian and
Mrs. Pearl Stokes. Brian
entertained the meeting with
a few selections on his guitar.
Contests were enjoyed; with,
Harold Johnstone ,winning
first prize, Mrs. Fitzsimmons
second and Mrs. Carroll
third. The door prize was won
by Mrs. Jean Baechler.
Lunch'was served and each
guest was presented with a
gift of flowers on departure.

complete for the annual
Poppy Campaign, the legion

cenotaph.
Organizations and business
concerns in the community
have ' been contacted
requesting their support of
t.he;Poppy Fund.

Legion and the Ladies

For thousands of widows and war orphans there are pensions. But no
pension or allowance can hope to provide for life's emergencies. Most of
us have some form of inburance against sickness, accidents and
hospital bills. But where would your wife turn for help if she were a
widow or if you were disabled?
The Canadian Legion's Poppy Trust Fund is the answer for thousands
of war widows, orphaneaend disabled veterans. It is a comrade's en-,
– during answer to the eyes that talked!

public' for funds:r
Donations to the Poppy
''Fund are' held in trust and
may be used only to provide
emergency aid to war
veterans and their depen-
dents and. to make bursaries
available 'to deserving sons
and -daughters of veterans.
Last year Branch 109
awarded over $1,000 in
bursaries to., assist four
students to further their
education above the,. secon-
dary level.
On Sunday,
November. 9
members of .•tile. Legion :and
„Au_xil-i.ary will assemble. at the
Legion hall at.10:30 a; m. and
parade to St. George's church
for the annual Legion church
parade.
On Remembrance Day,
November 11 at 11 a.m,
Citizens of the community are
invited to join the, Branch for
a short service Ind wreath
laying ceremony at the
cenotaph on The Square.
This service is arranged by
the poppy committee in co-
operation with the Goderich
Ministerial Association. The
town band will be present at
both parades.
