Junior girls beat out Northwestern
51-31; seniors defeated by Stratford

The GDCI junior girl's
basketball team ended their
regular season on a winning
note, defeating Stratford
Northwestern, 51-31, here last
Thursday. •
The win left coach Linda
Donnelly's team tied for
second place in the final
standings with Listowel and
Stratford Central.
In the draw for playoff
positions, the GDCI girls
wound up matched against
the first. place St. Mary's
team. They play today ,in St.
,Marys in a sudden -death
semi-final.
' Karen Popd was the top
scorer in the game with
Stratford, with 16 points.
Sheila O'Brien added 10
points for the winners. Anne
Marie Murphy had eight
points, Lucie Turcotte six
and Betty Sowerby five for
GDCI.
Joni Thompson, Sandy
Fisher, and Brenda Pollock
each contributed two points. ,
Marie Crogan and Joan'
McMillan had 10 points each
fs S tratford Northwestern.
' The GDCI senior girls 'lost
their game to Stratford 39-18.
Chris, Wildgen with 11
points and Lori Keller with
four were GDCI's top scorers.
-4 Donna Skinner, with 14
points, was ' Stratford's
leading scorer.
The Stratford seniors are
undefeated and finished in
first place.
The GDCI seniors finished
the season in fifth spot with
five wins and four losses.
Coach Donna .Doidge ex-
pressed her satisfaction with
the improvement shown by
her team. Exceptfor two
close losses early in the
season, .the team would have
finished higher' and likely
made the playoffs in the
opinion of their coach.
Miss Doidge felt the players
on her team deserved credit
for the long hours of practice
and fine effort they put forth
,over the season.

The Road Runners have
run up ,a team total of 42

Sailors beat Sunocos 5-3 in Int.

Intermediate "C" O.H.A.
schedule played here in
Goderich last , Wednesday,
October 29, the Goderich
Sailors edged Port Elgin
Sunocos 5-3. This is the first
time in two years that' the
Sailors have defeated the top
place team and it looks like
the `Sailors may have a
contending team
