Mr. and Mrs. Earl Allison of Goderich visited last Sunday with Mrs. William Straughan.and other relatives -before leaving this week to spend the winter months in Florida. Visiting their , parents Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Jardin this past weekend were Mrs.. Bonnie Armour and' Julie, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Jardin and family and Miss Melissa Jardin all of Kitchener. Mr. and ; Mrs. Ross' Robinson, Mrs. Thomas Jardin, Mr. and Mrs Norman McDowell attended the an- niversary service Sunday evening at Wingham United Church. Miss Dorothy Mutch of Clinton visited recently with Mrs. Albert McFarland. WI The October meeting of.the Auburn Women's Institute was held- last week in the 'Auburn .Community Memorial Hall , with the nresiden•t, Mrs. Thomas Haggitt in charge. The President welcomed =everyone -••and read•the-poem; -- Autumn Days. . The minutes were approved as read by the secretary, Mrs. Donald Haines and she also •gave the financial statement. She reported that • seven pairs of pillowcases had been embroidered for Huronview: • Plans were made to caterto the dinner for Mr. and Mrs. ,Gordon McC linchey's golden wedding anniversary on November 1. An .invitation to attend the Tiger Dunlop . November meeting was • accepted. Amonologue of the history of Auburn was • given by Douglas Glousher. A solo was sung by Miss Nancy Anderson accompanied , by Mrs. Kenneth McDougall. A • piano solo was played by Miss Doris Naylor. The directors are to meet with the executive of the Horticultural Society to plan the annual Christmas Fai'nily Night. It was decided to cater to a banquet on December 10. Mrs, Donald Cartwright gave the report of the County Rally and Mrs. Andrew Kirkconnell reported on cards sent and read the thank -you notes received. The •motto, Take respon- sibility on your shoulders and leave -no room for chips, was given ,by Mrs. Wilfred San- derson. A discussion took place on how the W.I. could assist the recreational' tommittee with • their Hallowe'en party in the hall on October 31 at 7 p.m. ' All children in the community are to go to the party as all householders in„ tale, village have contributed to this party to make the best ever. As this was fun night and Goderich, Goderich Township and—Clinton Branches' were guests, a `progressive euchre party was enjoyed. Prize winners were: high yellow card, Mrs. Irene Oke; high pink card., Doilglas Glousher; high crokinole winner, Mrs. Frank Raithbby; low, Mrs. Fred Barker. ,. The holder Of the lucky cup was Mrs. Gordon Powell. Lunch was served by Mrs. William Empey, Mrs. Thomas Lawlor, Mrs. Major Youngblut, Mrs. Celia Tayipr, and Mrs. Eleanor Bradnock. UCW The United Church Women of Knox United Church Auburn held their annual gutumn Thankoffering meeting last Thursday evening with the ,president Mrs, Gerald McDowell leading the service. Guests were welcomed by Mrs. Lawrence Plaetzer and Mrs. Ernest Durnin and the ushers were Mrs. Ross Robinsop and Mrs: 'William Empey. Mrs. Norman Wightman was the organist. Mrs. McDowell led in the worship service and gave a reading, • That First Thanksgiving Day. ;The scripture lesson, Nairn 100, was read by Mrs: Stanley Ball .folio led by a Thanksgiving meditation by Mrs. McDowell and prayer by Mrs. Gordon Gross. Mrs. Emerson Rodger and Mrs, Thomas Jardin sang a duet. t•. ' Mrs. Thomas Jardin in- troduced the guest speaker, Miss Lavonne Ballagh of Wingham. She gave an in- spiring Thanksgiving message which made each and everyone—reflect on her own thankfulness to God for 'His many mercies. Mrs, Maurice Bean ' thanked Miss Ballagh and -presented her with a gift. Guests were present 'from W ingham, Belgrave, Don- nybrook, Victoria St., Goderich," and the other churches in the village. Lunch was served by the ladies. LITTLE LEAGUE Over 75 members of the Auburn Little League ' Ball teams gathered in the Auburn Community Memorial hall for their annual banquet. The hall was attractively decorated with golden pumpkins and colourful maple .leaves for the oc- casion. Each coach sat with his or her team when a spaghetti and meatball dinner was served by members of , the Auburn recreational com- mittee. James Towe president pronounced the grace. -Keithi.app- thanked__Sanzl.y.. Andrews for his assistance during the year' and thanks was expressed by Trudy Machan and Linda Van Dongen,,for the support of the committee"'•and the banquet served by the ladies. Faye Seers thanked Mr. Towe for being master of ceremonies • and Allan Caldwell thanked those who had been u'mpires during the past season. Glen Webster also thanked the umpires. Mrs. Susan Haggitt presented a; trophy to Faye Seers', team for being the winners of the,. season.
