Hall, Carlow, Wednesday, October 22 at 2 p.m. Due to the absence of the president, the second vice- president,. Mrs. Richard Buchanan chaired the meeting. Roll call, "Display of Craft or Heirloom", proved very interesting and there were 26 members and two visitors present. Mrs. Hilile Kioeze and Mrs. Dorothy Feagan, leaders of 4- H Girls Tiger Dunlop Group No. 2 Active Risers, put on a demonstration on making batter buns, which is one of • the recipes the girls are making in this project "Let's Bake Bread. At this time they made'the batter and put it in a warm place for rising. Mrs. Tait Clark gave a very interesting report of the:fall rally in Belgrave October 1 and one of the interesting items was that the members at the rally agreed that each Institute would pay on ,the 'basis of 50c a member toward the Children's Aid Bursary. The motto, "Changes are good" was • given,, by Mrs. Maitland .Montgomery with fitting poems "That old Iron Pump" and "Grandma's Off Her Rocker" to the delight of all p resent Correspondence was • read which included notes of thanks from Mrs. Fred Battersby:, thanks for donation to the Heart Fund; letter from Children's Aid re Bursary Fund ;.• and. further information on Mustard report• ._ Mrs. R. Buchanan then gave an interesting report of the 61st London Area Con- vention in St. Thomas, October 15 ancr16 at which the theme was "Why or, Why Not":' Mrs. Buchanan and Mrs. E. Elliott reported on volunteer work at Goderich Pgychiattic Hospital and advised that members wouldbe par- ticipating on the fourth Tuesday' of each month, if possible. The next meeting will be Wednesday, November 25 at 2. p.m. when Tiger Dunlop W.I. will be entertaining guests from Auburn and Londesboro Women's Institutes. The members were then served a taste of the batter rolls which had been baked. A hearty thank you was ex- tended to the ladies in charge of the demonstration. All enjoyed a social half hour and refreshments were served by the Committee with Mrs. Geo. McBride as con, vener. 4-H Tiger Dunlop Group >No. 1 "Loafers" held their fifth meeting in Colborne Town- ship Hall, Monday evening October 27. The meeting opened with the 4-H Pledge and 11 members were present. The roll call for this meeting was "Show the sour dough loaf made for home activity, comment on how it turned out or tell an • ex- perience you had while making it". This was an- swered by all present. Helen 1,4 rindley led a discussion on bread faults and their causes, and how to make a good loaf of bread. fi 0000 0 4) Marion Dwinnell, Cindy Gower, Darlene Jewell, and Marjorie Schoemaker crumbled ,bread for the hamburg stacks and Brenda Sowerby, Nancy Brindley, Donna Kellestine and Barb. Potzel did the hamburgs while Darlene Jewell wasp busy boiling the milk. The hand out notes were then taken up and the meeting closed with tIfe Creed read by Betty Sowerby. 4-H Girls Tiger Dunlop Group, No. 2 Active Risers held their fifth meeting in Colborne ' Township Hall, Carlow, Monday evening with all members ..present. They all answered the roll call which was to show a Sour Dough Loaf of bread they had made -and comment on it. The girls were then put in groups of three and made supper dishes such as bar- becue hamburger stacks and cheese puffs, and while these two dishes were baking they discussed the faults of bread. Each member then had a meal of, these dishes served with homemade bread. The girls were told that for the next meeting they were, to bring ingredients for making fancy breads. SOCIAL NEWS The Christmas Country Fair held in the Saltford Valley' Hall October 15 and 18 report that Mrs. -C. Hoff- meyer, RR 2 Goderich was the winner of the quilt draw. Visitors with Mr. and -Mrs. Terenoe Hunter recently were Mrs. Armstrong and Mrs. Bennett of Detroit, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Hunter and Kathy of Stratford, and Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Thompson of Toronto. , Miss Helen Fulford's sister, Mrs. Myrtle Hicks of Detroit p as been visiting with her form., the past two weeks. M s Robin Pidetta and Bob Sorrentine of Detroit joined them for the weekend and all three • returned home to Detroit Sunday. Mr.. and Mrs.. :Gordon Kaitting had a pleasant motor trip north the latter part of last week visiting. Parry Sound, Sudbury, St. Joseph Island and returning by South Bay Mouth and Tobermory on the •Chi-Cheemaun, which makes its final trips of the season this weekend. The weather, even though the leaves were gone and it looked like fall, was sunny and clear and starting to get cool. Allan Stoll is a patient in University Hospital, London and hiS many friends , wish him a speedy recovery. RETIREMENT PARTY Robert KMcCabe was feted at a retirement party in the' form of a banquet sponsored, by the Huron County Road Committee at the Legion Hall Brussels and attended by members of the goad Committee and 80 of his fellow workers. Bob retired in September of this year after 41 years of service with the,County. The party followed the usual pattern of an evening of cards, social get-together followed by a smorgasbord supper. Presentations included , gifts from the Road Com- mittee and his fellow em- rr 000 ployees. A rare gift of a framed certifigate for 40 years service to municipal roads by the Ontario Good Roads Association was presented by the President and County Engineer, J.W. Britnell. Other gifts Mr. McCabe received were an electric sander.which he will find very useful in pursuing his hobby, and a stereo radio. Among the special guests present were Warden Anson McKinley and Road Com- mittee Chairman Ralph McNichol. Bob was' wished, by the retirement, party, and, is wished by his many friends, Many years of happy retirement. Harbouraires plan busy fall season The Harbouraires have 'begun a very busy season. The male chorus, under the direction of George Buchanan, sang last Sunday evening at the Anniversary Service at Knox Presbyterian Church in Kincardine. The previous Sunday evening, they were featured at the Anniversary service of the Monkton United church. Every seat was filled and the congregation enjoyed eight numbers by the group. i, Next Sunday they will tape their annual " program at CkNX,-TY in Wingham. The Bible Society is having special evening and ,the Harbouraires will sing that -evening in November. On December 7th the —chorus -will provide a special Sunday evening *concert at the Holmesville United Church. Anyone who has .a love for music _would be most welcome to join'the group and can phone Mr. Buchanan at 524-7433. One mishap mars week A two -car collision on Bayfield Road October 25" resulted in a total, damage estimate of $3,300 to vehicles driven by Ronald Reder, RR 1, Bayfield and Barry Prom, 9 Palace -St., Forest. The ,collision'occurred near' the Suncoast shopping mall on Bayfield Road. Damage to the Prom vehicle was estimated at $3,000 and $300 to the Reder vehicle. Reder and a passenger, Ken R6bson, were taken to Alexandra Marine and General Hospital where they were treatecrfor cuts , and bruises and released. During the past week the Goderich Police Department also laid four charges under the Liquor Control Act, five under the, Criminal Code of Canada, one under the Narcotics Act ancl35 under the Highway Traffic Act. Knox Church Parlor, Tuesday,October 21. President Mrs." Clayton, Edward opened the meeting with the Call to Worship in the Thanksgiving theme. Prayers of Thanksgiving. were,i offered by Mrs. G.G: MacEwarr, Mrs, C. Cutt and Mrs. Flo MacDonald. Correspondence included cards of thanks' from Catherine Wilson and family, and the family of the late Vera Fjsher. Members were reminded to bring their Blessing or Mite Boxes to the November meeting. • The President 'gave special mention to the beautiful illustrative poster prepared by Miss- Lily McArthur and Mrs. A.M. Harper who did the lettering and artist work. A special letter"of thanks was instructed to be sent torjvlrs. Harper for her interest. Mrs.. Andrew Gaunt was the speaker for the meeting and gave a soul stirring message on her visit to the Holy Land with the aid of slides showing her travel. She climaxed her message with the words of•the, beautiful song, "I walked today where Jesus walked", Miss Hazel McDonald thanked the speaker as did the PreAident.' The members and guts enjoyed a social half hour together. presented to the recreation board. +++ The November meeting of the Lake Ifuron Zone Recreation Association will be held in Goderich Thursday November 6 at the Bedford Hotel. The annual meeting of the Ontario Municipal Recreation Association will be held in Kincardine on November 8. ++ • The theme of this 'year's Santa Claus Parade isa Fairytale Christmas" and the deadline for entries is November 21. This year the cash 'prizes for the float en- tries have been doubled in an effort to encourage more and better participation. The recreation board a.P. .proved grants at its monthly meeting held last Thursday, local groups receiving funds included the Goderich figure skating club who received only half of_the $1,000 they , requested. The Laketown band has received $1,000. in grants which will be followed by an additional $1,000 'for the purchase of their new uniforms. The Goderich Minor hockey association received $600 for a coaches' clinic and the ' Little Theatre Will receive $300 to., help 'defray costs of their productions.
