Joanne Duckworth and Lee Ryan topped the east -west competition with a point total of 106 while Bill Duncan and Ron Klages finished second with 711/2 points. Marion Lane and Barbara Howe'took third -+la re with 68 pe ints. Tom Eadie and Ray d, Fisher took second place with 74 points while Dave Cornish and Dave Wilkinson 'settled for third place with a point total of 711/2. e• CHESS ClUB NEWS Last week, newcomer Benjamin Stadelmann won four games to move all the way ui into first place with an impressive seven- wins and one loss. A tremendous race for first place is developing with the top six players all having only one loss. , Playing extremely well this year and moving into a second place tie with Chas. MacDonald is Harold Klo•ezev' MacDonald won this 'only game of the night to move into a second place tie while Glen Wightman picked up a win and -a loss to hold onto the last Level 1 position. In Level 2,, Larry Gower gained his seventh victory of the season and still holds a tie for the mowvictories with Benjamin Stadelmann. The Goderich Township Chess Club would also like to welcome back'JohnKane who is now starting his fourth season with the Club, John started the season with two wins arid two losses to take the, lead in Leve4. 3. County planner Gary Davidson said last week that Huron will seek the grants for the preparation of secondary, plans for Usborne and Ashfjeld townships 'and for updating of the plan for Wingham. All plans are prepared by the county, planning department to confojj'm to thecounty-wide official plan. Mr. Davidson said the county already -has received $35,000 for its work on the ' plans for Brussels and Zurich and the townships of Howick, Grey, Colborne, Goderich ' and Tuckersmith. Part of the provincial money, will be applied toward the cost of an additional planner, he said. County council has' authorized the hiring of a third planner - with experience in rural planning - to s.peed the preparation of secondary plans in Huron's 12 remaining municipalities.
