Council met for the regular
October meeting in the
Township Garage on.Tuesday
evening, October 7, .with all
members present and Reeve,
Bob Lyons presiding.
A Sherwood of
Dungan on attended the
'meeting and reque ted a
written authorizati from
Council to .install a water
system for the new
residential' development in
Dungannon,' along the side of
the Township road. The_ Clerk
was directed, to draw up' a
document for signatures by
the• Township and Mr.
Sherwood.
Wm, Bey,ers'bergen
questioned Council about a
road culvert which he feels is
ineffective.. He also men-
tioned concern about his farm
which • borders the property
along' the man-made , lake,
should cottages be . erected
beside the lake.
Wes Nivins attended the
meeting to place his ob-
jections before Council, to
certain changes which are
proposed on the. Kirk
Municipal Drain Repair and
Improvement. The Clerk was
authorized to advertise for
tenders on the Gaunt
Municipal Drain. She was
also instructed by Council to.
write Frank Cowan Company
to have the insurance
Overage on road equipment
increased, due to rasing labor
and repair costs.
The Reeve informed
Council of the receipt of
$10,000, the first instalment of
the grant+ for the Ontario

owner -occupants to par-
ticipate in this program.
A , motion by Councillors
Cranston and Stothers
authorized the., Reeve and
Clerk to apply for the Interim
Subsidy on 1975 road ex-
penditures.
Camping may not sound
particularly innovative,. but
for the handicapped
vacationers who were able to
spend two weeks in the out-
doors, pursuing the same
educational ,.and recreational
programs as • their able-
bodied ,counterparts, it 9was
an exhilerati,g ' experier(ce,
he said.
"The response •has told us
that we must carry on this
activity in an expanding
way,„ stated Mr. Birchall.
Other innovative. March of
Dimes .programs include
travelling medical clinics,
self-help community
development. programs, the
pr-ovision of wheelchairs and
other appliances to those in
need, and continued ad-
vocacy at . all levels of
government for. improved
housing and transportation
for the handicapped.
"It is important that' we
'continue. to act as the ad-
vocates for change in
legislation which will assure
the handicapped of their right`'
to participate in the com-
munity,” concluded Mr.
Birchall.
The Ontario March of
Rimes is in its 25th `year of
service to the Province's
handicapped adults. Only
through the generous support
of volunteers and area
residents can the innovative
and integrative programs
"planned for 1976 be realized.
The Marching Mothers
begin their 1976 `March' on
January 15th, their campaign
target is $64,900.
