The GDCI Senior Vikings'
pushed their record in Huron -
Perth Conference play do to the `
winning' side with a 20-1 victory
over Stratford Northwestern
Huskies last Thursday in
Stratford.
The Vikings, defending
Huron -Perth champions, now,
have a record of two wins and
one loss in three regular season
starts.
Gerry .O'Brien got the
Vikings off td a fine start
against the ,Huskies, returning
the opening kick off 90 yards for
'a touchdown,
Lee '`Wong" Arbour added
two touchdowns, one in the
secondquarter on a six yard off
tackle run and one in the third
quarter On a. sixty yard pass
and run play from quarterback
Bill"Gator" Walters.
Steve Chase was successful
on one convert a.tternpt,'
The only Stratford score
came on a second quarter
single point from, a punt, deep
into the Goderich end zone.
Viking head -coach Ray
Donnelly bemoaned the lack of
consistency in the Viking's
offensive attack, but was
pleased with the improving
timing in the backfield.
Donnelly pointed out the main
problem as being along the
offensive line, especially its
failure to provide quarte"rback
Walters with enough time to
throw the ball on passing plays.
,,The Viking - defense was,
strong; never allowing the
Huskies possess ion • of the' ball
inside the Viking_ 25 yard line:'
The strength of the deeensive
game was indicated by the
frequency of the Vikings having
five and six` men in on tackles
throughout the afternoon,
The Vikings' next game is
today, (Thursday) in Stratford,
this time against the Stratford%
Central Ramblers. A win for
the Vikings would set up what
could be the key game of the
schedule for the Vikings here
next Thursday against the
Exeter Panthers, who like the
Vikings, have lost once to the
reague leading Central Huron
Redmen.
