Huron --Bruce PC nomination
William ' Walden, 51, of
-Wingham will represent the
Progressive Conservative
party in Huron -Bruce in the
September 18 provincial
election.
Mr. Walden *on, the
nomination uncontestedLat the
Kincardine town hall last
Thursday night. Only one other
man was nominated,4Dr. Gary
Gurbin, Kincardine, but he
withdrew due to "personal
obligations."
Mr. Walden wag raised in
Kincardine and after spending
some, time in .the air force,
moved to Ripley where he lived
for 15'years.""
Most recently he had
'operated Walden Brothers
Transport in Wingham with his
brother. He sold the trucking
company and now operates a,
leasing business and door in-
stallation business.
He is -married and has four
chRlden. r -
In his acceptance speech, he
acknowledged the importance
of the riding, with the "world's
largest nuclear plant," and it's
fame for agriculture and. the
foremost beef county in
Ontario:
'He will be working full-time
"day and night" on his cam-
. paigning.
When asked what he thought
his chances were against his
iberal opponent, incumbent
Murray Gaunt, he said, "I hope
they've very good."
Sam MacGregor, of Kin=
Goderich's
newest school..
(continued from paged)
cardine will be his campaign
manager. Headquarters will be
set up in Wingham with DeWitt
Miller in charge, in Kincardine,
with Harvey Palmateer in`
charge and in Port Elgin, with
Harry Clark in charge.

Doors missing
One of the., space saving ideas
the ministry taxed their ar-
chitects with, in the kin-
dergarten room is the
washrooms. The toilets are in
the room in a tiny enclosure
near one of the entrances.' This
allows the students the full
range of school facilities
without leaving the room - but
. the experiment may not work.
The space saving device the
ministry applied . Was doors.
There aren't any. The children
go in the enclosure and enter a
tiny cubicle housing the toilet:.
Mr. O'Brien sees no reason why
"the lack of doors should matter
since the children still have
total privacy, but he has.
adopted a wait-and-see . at-
titude.
"There's no reason why both
sexes have to be in there at the
same time;" said the principal.
"But the parents may feel
doors should. be installed as a
matter ' of principle and the
ministry will have to decide
what to do," '
The tour ends at the entrance
to the new wing and it is here
that Mr. O'Brien glows with
satisfaction. ,
"This," he explains, "is the
new office."
. Entering the brightly lit
quarters, the principal- leads
viewers. to an offshoot office
that affords a view of the school
lawn through' two large ,win-
dows.'The floor is carpeted and
them is, a doorway leading to
the secretarial area that can be
closed to afford Mr. O'Brien
complete' privacy.
"After having my desk in the
gymnasium surrounded by
secretaries, the library and
guidance office and just about
all the school supplies; this will
be heaven,"he'sighs.
Entering the office next door
that is carpeted Out has no
windows, Mr. O'Brien remarks
casually, "This is the vice-
prfncipal" s off ice."

PC president Bruce Keith
explained to the large group of
party members the importance
of contributions in the cam-
paigns this year.
No one person or company,
including the candidate, ma
y
Y
contribute° more than $1,000 to
the.campaign and stressed that
all contributions are tax
deductible.
Guest speaker at the
meeting, Eric Winkler(
chairman of the board of
management in the provincial
government and -sitting
member for Grey, was the
guest speaker at the meeting.
He dwelt on the successes of
the conservative governments
of the past, "everyone a suc-
cessful tertn, every leader a
successful leader." -
He lashed into the federal
-government, charging that the
Ontario taxpayer is being taken
for a ride by the federal
government. He cited the two
latest budgets brought down by
the Liberals as examples of. the
`cost to the taxpayers.
He claimed that bah budgets
were in direct opposition to the
policies Q,f the provincial
government,. costing the
Ontario tax payers $129 million.
Mr. Wirer encouraged the
local party members to
"gather some people together
and go," to help Mr. Walden be
elected "Tomorrow is the day,"
he added.
We re working harder than ever to satisfy you. '
