Gosh,. , ,.1sure hate♦to be 'a bore, but the• truth is stranger than fictir! ! Would you believe we've won again?? Nine wins 'in nine games! Can't ask for better than • that, aeh? United "versused” ..London Portuguese "B" and shut them out 2-0. • - The London team was aggressive and grimly determined b to win this match; !Jilt took all the hassle and onto Their wits. The defense line worked well and "the General" took.command and h•el.d everyone together. But it', was really the forwards who" managed to keep the team one ,step better than the opposition. .Harold Ref- ,flinghaus .and Tom Phipps made some great, plays and r displayed their intelligence And -cool. • "'Dur'ittg `the 'first half, the Polrttiguese.'.trlett"vi irfrg d°" and a maneuver the ball down to our zone, but time and again, Goderich brought it back up and repeatedly took shots on their net. It was a long time coming though ' ..., good ole United had whipped shot after fantastic shot on the,,Poftuguese net throughout this first half without success.' Talk 'about' frustration!,! The Portuguese. goal ie.got a workout from our men that he'll never forget!! We didn't play ,especially terrific, but we played with persistence and a cheerfully confident manner:- It saw u's through to the end of this 45 minutes and as usual, when the -a i to o c whistle called the secora tion, United had polled, up their sox (jazzy-knee-hi's !) and straightened ttp their act. They performed'with more unity and careful checking and covering.: They didn't do much 'challenging .because the , opportunity seldom, arose the opposition threw out all the challenges -and kept Goderich busy looking after themselves m and their zone! United's. cool was ''right up front and they - kept their tempers (andlongues !) well under control! (-- This was indeed a feat, as the•Porttlguese` are not known to have passive natures and have an, uncanny knack of laying on the "cotes" at the crucial moment! United seemed ex- tremely shy and retiring by comparison! !' This second half saw a- little better ball control and .consistently good plays, but no way could the guys zap the ball into the opposition's net. Over and over, United shot the ball and -over and over and over and over it just barely missed!! It was'really weird "watching the fellas fighting' so hard to score and some freaky fate deciding not to.let us! Th.is.d terred them not one whit, but the fans were almost in "cardiac'ai'rest" by the last half of this second 45:`minutes ! !
