New signs name streets
" Visitors to Goderich have
undoubtedly "had the ex-
perience of having to get out of
their cars to identify the names
on the street signs. It is an
• annoying chore but regardless
it was a necessary one since the
signs are impossible to read.
Well, the town of Goderich is
doing something about that
problem and certainly the
citizens of Goderich have
4 noticed the new colorful green
and blue street signs that have
been erected in , various sec-
tions of town..
The- Goderich Public Works
department last week erected
oyer 1110 street signs around
The Square, Huron ' Road,
Victoria Street and Bayfield
Road area at a cost of almost
$2,800.
Department foreman Stan
Meriam stated that the old
signs had beenv put up about •15
„,years ago; land that new signs .?r
will be installed probabl,i at a
yearly . rate of 110 in various
other sections of "town. .
Stan Profit, chairman of the
Fire, Traffic and Safety
Committee, explained that the
first set of signs was erected on
the two Highway 21 and High-
way 8 approaches to town first
so newcomers to town knew
where to go. The committee
.intends, to budget for • °more
street sign money in the future
to complete the job:
"We have spent nearly $2,800 "
on -the' signs already, "Reeve
Profit said, • "but 'the signs
around town are miserable and
you can't see them."
Mr. , Profit' • said that the
reaction to the new signs' was
,favorable but added the town
cannot help but improve on the
existing signs.
