GODERICH SIGNAL -STAR, THURSDAY, FEfR ka

advised them that a lnumber - Councillor Peters agreed
of companies affected by the that'the pool is adequate as a
change had been inquiring= recreation area but disagreed
about construction dates as
they wished to proceed as
soon as possible.
Reeve Stan Profit stated
that he was not going to be
rushed in the decision
because of the ,,desires of any
companies, He said that any
decision still hinged on the
purchase of the two
properties at the" corner of
Bayfield and Britannia. He
added that he was in favor of
the four lane highway but not ,
for being "blackmailed" into
spending thousands of dollars
to buy the property. .
Financial chairman Bill
Clifford recommended that
council pay„ McLean -Foster
the $3,079 they requested for
relaying the section of the
South Storm,., Sewer that
erupted last year.
Mr. Clifford explained that
although the cost represented
a duplication of labor it was
justified. He said that the
construction company could
not be faulted as they
followed the specifications of
the engineers Todgham and
Case, who acted on behalf of
the town.
The engineers admitted to a
miscalculation in .
specifications for the area of
the eruption ad4ing that if
they had of included the catch
basins in the project council
would probably have ap-
proved them. He told council
Todgharmandcase would pay

The Goderich Recreation'
Board submitted the ,
drawings showing changes
required at Judith
••Gooder.'ham Pool for the •next.
season- ° and requested
cou'ncil's decision on the
matter. Councillor Bob. Allen
told 'council the wholesale
changes would probably cost,
about $50,000.
The matter sparked some
discussion as to the, merit of
the expense when the
that it was adequate for a
cornplete swimming
program. He said that any
extensyve . swimming and
diving courses could not be
taught at the pool because of
its size and depth restrictions.
He added that the life of.the
pool had to be considered in
.the matter.
Councillor Gower
suggested that a minimum
amount be spent to allow the
pool to open 'next season and
that council defer the expense
until, more is known on the
proposed complex. That
course was agreed on by the
group.
