ship contains eight miles of
shoreline south of Goderich,
giving the authtrity about a
2,000 square -mile jurisdiction.
Resource manager Ian
Deslau,riers said the new
territory includes 11 small
creeks which flow into the lake
-but which provide major
erasion problems in their
gullies.
By joining the authority, the
township will be. eligible for
provincial -grants. for shoreline
,tudies to help find solutions to
erosion. he Said.
The southern portion of the
township, he said, belongs to
the Ausahle-Bayfield Conser-

Authority's 20 -member
municipalities Voted,
unanimously to include
Goderich Township. The

first look at a proposed 1975
budget of, about $415,000.'

increases in' expenditures are ,
dependent on.contributions to

Epiphany
second
Christmas
BY PETE CUDHEA
CONESTOGA JOURNALISM
STUDENT
Christmas on December 25 is
first ,known to have been
celebrated in Rome in the
second quarter of the fourth
century, when it com-
memorated the- ,birth of Christ,
there was as yet nd Epiphany.
In the eastern part of the em-
pire a festival on .January 6.
commemorated the
manifestation of God inboth
the birth and baptism of Jesus,
and there was as yet no Christ-
mas.
In the course of the fourth
century the. celebration on
Decembetu 25 was adopted in
the east (except in Jerusalem),
and became the day when the
birth was commemorated,
January 6 retaining its connec-
tion with the baptism.
In the west the process
worked .out differently:
Epiphany became a kind of
doublet of Christmas, com-
memorating the visit of the
Magi to the Infant Christ, the
baptism being relegated to .a
mere mention in•the octave (the
eighth day afte. the, feast).
