Goderich Signal Sfars
'travelled to Kincardine with a
,minimum of players as work,
injuries and two suspensions
limited them to only nine
players and two . goaltenders.'
The game proved to be a costly
one when at the 2:47 mark of
the second period, Kim Arbour,
was lost indefinitely with torn
ligaments in the right knee.
At the end of the first period,
Kincardine was ahead 3-1, the
Signal -Stars only goal was by
Kevin Meriam, Ron Sowerby
assisting.
Kincardine received 12
minor penalties, and Goderich
had eight minor penalties
called in a fast wide open game
which ended up 9-6 in favor of
Kincardine. Mon Sowerby
picked up two goals, and two
assist's for four points to lead
the point getters for Signal -
Stars.
Kevin Meriam had a hat
trick while John 'Hanly and
, VVennis Reed each, had two
assists in the game, Signal=Star
winger, Paul Parsons_a' also
picked- up his first goal of the
season.
.. The largest crowd of the
season for a minor hockey game -
saw Mount Forest defeat
Goderich 6-1 on Sunday on a
five goal .second period. Phil
Arthur, Tim McLean and Mike
Cummings were called up from
the Midgets and played a
"strong game for the Signal -Star
__Juvenile squad. •
Mount Forest had 55
• minutes in penalties compared
to 16 minutes for the
disciplined. Goderich crew. °
Only Dire goal was scored in
the first period and it came off,
the stick .of Ron Sowerby on a
high hard •slap shot from the
blue line, as he beat Mount
Forest's goaltender. . Jeff Cock-
burn on his gloveside. Both

Sailors split weekend
pair on home grounds

On two home weekend
games,. Goderich Sailors won
easily Friday evening against
Milverton '8-2 and then lost a ...
tough one Sunday afteinoon as
Fergus Flyers edged them 5-4.
In Friday night's contest, the
Sailors displayed one of their
best offensive attacks as they
played as ,a team. The score in-
dicates it was a real team ef-
fort.
Firstperiod only one goal at
the 7:05 mark Jim Farrish beat
Milverton's goalie from close
in, Goderich had a man advan-
tage at the time. Wayne Doak
and Wane Fisher: assisted:. -c
Nine minor• penalties were
handed out in the first 'period
five to the Sailors.
The' Sailors made it four
nothing by the end of the
second as defenceman Jim
Hayter picked up two goals,
both being set up by Wane
Fisher and Jim Farrish. Bill
Jansman scored his first goa
a Sailor uniform as he pi
up Tom Crawford's pass. Star-
ting the play was Cam
McDonald.
Jim Hayter's. first goal was a
power play goal with Wayne
Doak assisting. Cam McDonald
played a strong game offen-
sively as he combined with Bill
Jansmari to pick up two goals
in the third period.
Spoiling Rick Toth's shutout
in the final period was Murray
Kerr, who picked up Ed Erb's "
rebound shot to knock it in.
'Dick Harrow was the other
marksman for Milverton
Sailorstwo outstanding for-
wards were Jim, Farrish and
Wane Fisher as they completed
the scoring in the third period,
each getting a goal and setting
-each other up.
Sunday afternoon's game
was a rough tough and penalty
filled game with lots of good
exciting hockey.
The O.H.A. Intermediate
League /has two divisions this
year - Luaknow', on the
weekend,Jtame up with two vic-
tories as they beat Seaforth and
Clinton; also, Port Elgin lost
this weekend. -
In Sunday's game, which
featured good goal tending by
both teams; the Fergus Flyers
came from behind to win 6-4,
The Sailors exploded in the
firstperiod for four goals as
they were out to beat Fergus-
' who upset them in the previous -
game in Fergus. Mike Courtney
gave the Sailors 1-0 lead
picking up Tom Crawford's
rebound at the 25 second mark
to startthe garne.

e penalty box at 1:53.

he intercepted a Sailor's pass,
right in front of. 'their net.
Kellestine had no chance,
making. the score 3-2.
Becore the first period ended,
Mike Courtney pounced one in
to make it 4-2. Tom Crawford
and Wane Fisher started the
play.
There was no scoring until
the 7:27 mark of the second
period, as hgtth teams r,t'Cxitssed
opportunities- to score and hit
the 'goal posts., Fergus Flyers'
John Lovell passed one from
the corner and standing all
alone in the slot was Randy
Flemming.Rob Kellestine
didn't mae a move. Then a
goal that should have been
disallowed (one referee waived
it no goal, and the other said it
was O.K.). This tied the game
four all. -
The tie breaking goal was
scored by John Lovell who. also
picked up four assists as it went
in between Kellestine's legs. He
was screened on the play.
With the score 5-4. starting -
the final period, Goderich
Sailors missed-- several oppor-
tunities to scrire.and also failed
to capitalize on two power play
attempts. Randy Flemming
picked up his second goal of the
game and Sandy Flemming en-
ded up with a hat trick.
Sailors ended up with two
five minute penalties. High
sticking and fighting and 12
minor penalties.. Flyers also
received' two five, minute—
penalties plus a 10 minute
misconduct and 11 minor
penalties.
Next game will'be this Friday
- Seaforth Beavers willbe in
town. Game time, 8:30 SHARP.

game.
In the second period, `Mount
Forest tied the game on a neat
three way passing play, then
went ahead on •a power play
and before theperiod ended,
they got three more goals.
In the third period, The
Signal Stars should hale
received a few momgoals but
they just couldn't, hit the net
and failed .to score on several
power play attempts.
Next Sunday Hanover will be
in town for a game.
