Clem Steffler reported on. the ' swimming classes this summer which were a `decided success. The ballgame season will soon be over. Another meeting will be called in the near future to get final reports from the ballgames and make plans for winter season. Mr. Harman will again be' holding Adult Recreation Nights (Volleyball) this year. at Colborne Central School. They will commence Wednesday, Oc- tober 16 and continue every week until Christmas. SCHOOL NEWS : Colborne' Central School will be closed on Thanksgiving Day, Monday, October L4. . Visitation Day for the teachers,. when they can, visit other schools, will be Monday, "October 21, : and therefore there will be no. classes. School will be closed that day. 4-H GIRLS Tiger Dunlop Group 1., "Tiger Dunlop Teapots", 'held their meeting in the Colborne Township Hall, Carlow Mon- day evening. Roll call was an- swered by 'nine members. The 'business meeting was opened with the , President, Susan Feagan in the chair. No meeting will be held .next . Monday because of . the Thanksgiving holiday; , - The meeting was turned over to the leaders, Mrs. Dorothy •Feagan"and Mrs. June Clark. The theme of. the' meeting was "Party Ideas" and the girls/ practised• writing invitations and replies. • Introductions were practised and the remaining part of the meeting was in the form of.Ua party with • entertainnient 'of games and food. At the' next meeting the- girls will practise making cup cakes, squares and small cookies from the ''recipes in the • member's book. Group No: 2 "Tiger Dunlop Entertainers," held their fifth meeting in the Colborne Town - `ship „ Hall„.Carlow Monday ,evening. op Barb Pretzel read the pledge and .14 member's answered the roll call. The treasurer's report . • was given by Nancy Brindley. At this meeting the'. girls talked about invitations to par- ties, formal and informal, and also table arrangements suitable. . The spring project • "What 'shall I wear?" and the summer project "The Garden Club" promises to be very interesting • for girls of these ages. The leaders gave help discussing the reference, files members are to have' ready for net meeting. , • The meeting closed with the creed by Betty Shwerby. Tiger Dunlop Group 3, The Party Pixies, was held at Rubena Brindley's home Oc- tober 7.' Recipes and helpful hints on cooking were, handed out: Minutes of the previous meeting were read by Sandra Nivins. Last year's exhibit on skill care will be sent to,Teeswater fair. The discussion surrounded formal and • informal parties and Rubena Brindley demon- strated a lovely dining table setting. Pizzas and tea or coffee were served for lunch. CHRISTMAS COUNTRY FAIR Plans are almost complete for the Ninth Annual "Christ- mas Country Fair" organized first in 1966 to promote local craftsmen. 1 This year the "Fair" is to be, held• in the spacious setting of Saltford Valley Hall where the wide aisles, no • steps, good parking%and a quiet village street should make for a better and bigger show. Over 30 craftsmen, four ar- tists and "well over. thirty bakers, all residents of the township, are to take part. Guest craftsmen from other parts of the area are to supply such criffts as .home-made pine furniture, leather, and stone craft, wool and chenille craf,, china painting, wooden. toys,w woodturning, glass -painting, pottery; handmade silver jewellery, etc. - • "Nostalgia for past Fairs and Colborne • Township of yesteryear" will be the theme of hall decorations in charge of, Mrs. A.M. ' Harper and the other Township artists. An, old fashioned harvest scene is to greet the guests providing th,p frost doesn't get ,the pumpkin! Mrs. Robert Bean and. her assistants are in charge of welcoming the visitors. ,. The baking department is to be in the' charge of Mrs. Ber- nard Fisher, while the jams, pickles and produce will be in charge, of Mrs. Roy Walter and Mrs. Albert Walter. Any Town ship person 'interested in having any baking or produce sold are asked to contact these ladies. CSAO, , had : planned a study session • Tuesday in Toronto, but it was called off when the negotiators, reached an agreement on the composition of an arbitration board, according to an infor- med source. ` His information was confir- med by news reports from Toronto announcing that 'the government bowed CO teacher demands that an: arbitration- board rbitrationboard to settle the dispute be balanced. . • Negotiators agreed that the board would be composed of one CSAO member; a govern- ment representative and a third party to be selected by the . other two. Government refusal to accept this setup before led to a break- down in talks' September 29. Teachers then planned the study sessions. Teaching was relatively nor- mal at the Clinton Centre, chairman.
