As a reader of this newspaper you
have no idea. of the dedication of the
staff that puts it out eagh week.
'Last week the computer that produces
the' type that you read took it into its
head on Tuesday night 'to become in-
capacitated.,
' Because of the complexityof the ,
problem within the machine it took until
11 p.m. Wednesday night to get it
belching type once again.
People not as• dedicated. and as full of
pride as the people here at Signal -Star
Publishing would have said', "Well I
guess it will be a day Late this week;' But
not the Signal staff. They wouldn't bon-
sider the possibility of missing the
deadline:
The editors, the composition people,
press personnel• and the mailing crew in
Goderich and •Clintin worked until 5
a.m.-Thursday morning to make sure you
got your paper On time as usual.
This is what makes this. newspaper
La
number one in Cart da and also in the
mind of this publisher, makes the staff
number one.
When the composition of the paper .
was nearing completion the prreso crew
and, mailing crews„ appeared
scene around.310 to, 4:00 am Thursday -
morning to take the ;composed
newspaper through' to the end so you
would receive it as expected on Thur-
,sday.
So last' week you received the or-
dinary Thursday a.m. Signal and News
Record but you got itunder extraor-
dinary • circumstances. ,
We 'know that. despite your joking
remarks' about your paper you ap-
preciate receiving it and you; appreciate
receiving, it on time. I know .you as. a
reader. will .join me in thanking all those
for their extra effort and for their
dedication' to our publication.
Jail'.. project was success
As of Wednesday morning this week,
6,562' persons have toured the former
Huron County Jail since. its opening at
the first of July. To say the project has
`"been successful would be a bit of an un-,,
derstatement. It. would be appropriate,
perhaps, to note that this experiment has
proved to be a worthwhile, important ad--
. dition to Huron County's total develop-
.. Ment.
After Labor Day Weekend, the jail will
.be open only on Saturdays and Sundays
from noon until 5 pm. It•will remain open
weekends just ' as long as interest
remains alive'. Groups, according to co-
ordinator. Harry Bosnell, can make an
appointment to tourthe jail through the
week. a •
Next summer though,• the jail will
reopen --bigger and better with more for
everyone.a'Early winter will see, a 'series—

Dear Editor,
;It was with great concern
that' I' read 'of a controversial
"business" on the .Square' --
being -that of dogs.
My first reaction was that
Perhaps Councillor Harrison
should" put'up signs reading
"Dog Lovers Step 'n Fetc,hit,
This town won't take any crap
from anybody!' But •then, I
thought, perhaps• that is too
'stern. A well-coiffed French
poodle "might, take offence,'
Perhaps, "Do what you d•oo

not" subtle enough.
And one could hardly ask a
