Proud achievement A Special Editorial by Signal -Star Publisher R,G, Shrier A Last oFrjday. in Toronto, our newspaper won three awards''in the Canadian Com- munity Newspapers' Association com- petition. As publisher, I am proud of all three but can share in only one. The other two are personal ,achievements of Signal -Star editor, Shirley ,J1. Keller, the first woman editor in the newspape'r's 127 -year histdry. All staff members can be proud of the Signal -Star being judged top newspaper in its circulation -category in Canada. This award is Open to • all .weekly newspapers in Canada;• regardless of -size: To say she was delighted would be an understatement: To say the publisher and staff here at the'Signal-Star proudly guest -~opinion ' n share this delight -would be an equal un- derstatemertt. . Shirley's courage„ in editorial, writing has grown over the years. She states an opinion as she sees it. She is not always..ao right and never will be, but she -does ,give an educated °pinlory°•on a subject. This has .earned. her friends and ep enemies, but most of all, it has -earned •,admiration and, respect for taking. a stand. • This publisher and the 'staff of the Signal -Star congratulate her: I know our subscribers join us' in saluting her, achievement.
