An unusually aggressive
squirrel bit a yuung- Goderich
child on July o7 and, forced the
'child's doctor and Public
Health Officer P-rank'Mills into
a decision on rabies prevention.
The child was _kiittp. by the

until .some time later in the
week when the matter was.
taken to the 'anni•ly physician.
The ..fact that the ° squir'rel
could nnt?t?e traced and that it
was behaving in an unusual
manner when it bit the child
suggested to the two medical
men that it could possiblyhave
been afflicted with rabies.
One squirrel was destroyed:
on the off chance that it was
the culprit and its head sent to
Seaforth for a rabies test. The
r
tests haveproved, negative to
date but the policy of the
Public ,Health, Department is
'when in doubt give the serum'.
The injections given the child
-are not the standard vac-
cinations but a tnilder form of
• preventitive made from duck
embryo, The needles; however,
are identical as, those given a
diagnosed rabies victim. n
°Chief H-ealth Inspector
James McCaul 'reports that the
possibility of the animal ,being
rabid are minimal and no
