Carl Moller is valuable to his team Carl Moller is the number one man on this year's United soccer team and not only because he bears the number one on his uniform. Carl arrived in Goderich in ,,957 • from Denmark, already an 'accomplished goalie. He first took up the position when he was 10 years. old and since. has played every other position: I -le played out for the Athletics and the Rangers;in the 60's but was moved back to goal where he has played ever since. - Now employed at the Sifto Salt Co., In 'Goderich, Carl en- joys bowling as a form of relaxation., He also likes to -get together with the other players and practice the fine .art' of elbow bending. . . e The 30 year old goalie can be assured` of support at every -, game his team plays. Histi mother Gwen ' and his wife° Johanne never miss a game and are always heard show ipg encouragement from the sidelines. `' Carl's competence and con- scientious attitude has earned the respect of his team-mates and his cheerful manner has won their friendship. • Goderich team Has third soccer win uh &ie4 GODERICH & OWEN• SOUND Floor Coverings -"Paints Wailoaoers Draperies -- 18th Century Furniture Refinisher IN GODERICH'• 4, PHONE 524-8532 MANAGER CLAYTON MIZFN I BY RONNIE VARGA Hey, Hey, Hey, Fans!! Stand up and cheer for Goderich United! Big Mama's boys have done,"it again! Our third straight win! Guess -'you could eall us a triple threat team!! It was not one -of your better evenings weather-wise, but the excitement drowned' out the cold, rain and mud etc. The opposition didn't stand a chance with Goderich corning on like `gang busters'! o- Within 'a very few minutes of the first half a free kick was given to Goderich and Howie Gottschalk came through with. our first goal. You deserved that goal, (Howie. •(Retribution is sweet, eh, guy?) There .were plenty of opportunities for more scoring ,but nothing seemed to' be coming together until Brian `Allen paved the way with another great goal which left usawith.two points to EXeter's no score at the finish of the first 45 minutes of play. Brian is playing with so much more confidence and it's telling in his technique. •• There's no describing the second `half of the game! Up un- tilvtherr Dave Graf had done e'eervthing known to man lek.- sept turn himself inside out!) to coax that ball into the net! I'll bet there wasn't one inch of the goalpost he didn't hit! sThen all at once the..fates decided lie deserved his just reward and did he take adva'ntage! He scored not once, not twice but three times (not in succession, folks!) He and Harold Refflinghaus dominated The scoring with a 'hat trick' apiece. First one would score then the other - it was some contest! That Harold is a wizard on the field. Never saw anyone with sugh magic in his feet! (A dubious compliment you say. Harold?) So people, the score totalled up to a fantastic 8-0. I'm sorry we befuddled . Exet=er so badly (they' just couldn't get it on!) but so glad we've got Goderich tnited°to represent us. They hustled and out -maneuvered and out -played the Cen- tennials to a man. Let's hear three cheers for United!! We heard plenty of cheering "Sunday. Despite the foul weather some new andinterested fans ventured out and we salute their spirit and loyalty. The team deserved the extra screaming and shouting and they got it! Some special mentions are diie of this'point. Firstly, Rick Fisher deserves a pat on the back for his erfthusiastic efforts. He barrelled away and got off some fine shots on goal and his °passing was right on! Way to go "Tippy Toes" ! Clare Sager is really corning on these_ames and it's showing. He's done some beautiful work :Mitt on the field. Good boy, Clare! John Gottschalk did a fine job and really made some great,; plays. And last, but certainly not least, comes Wild Bill Wedlock! Bill played with a couple of in- juries (that's sports for, y9u) but was nevertheless fantastic. He played with beautiful technique (double `wow'!) and loth of `savvy' and just generally 'got it together' ! . He tried his best fora goal; he even ended up in the goal at one point (ac- 'cidentally) but the goalie nixed, that idea. (Seems you've got • to have the ball in there to score!) But Bill made one beautiful play that allowed. Dave Graf to score. Don't see too many assists like that one. You'll notice I've changed the "Willie" to 'Bill'' It was done at 'William's'request. 'Hen- ceforth, he wishes to be known as "Bill" or `Whipper! I kind of go for 'Whipper Will' myself! The "Tide" people should be ale'ted and on the lookout for you, "Whip"! How you managed to get the muddiest again is a mystery! Next."game is in_ London at 5:00 p.rn. on Saturday the llth. If you can make it fans, we'd be `plea, sured' to see you!'Til next time, God bless; keep fit and stay happy. Track and Field Foxy GDCI wins medals .
