The Goderich Signal-Star, 1974-04-11, Page 12PAGE 12—GODE.ICH' SIGNAL -STAR, THURSDAY,' APRIL 11, 1974 Shore Crescent residents want curbs—boulevards. The residents of Shore Crescent nave presented a petl'tion to- Goderich Town Coun it asking that construction of curbs and boulevards on the east side of Shore Crescent be, done. immediately.° Thirty-three names were attached to the document. The accompanying letter told council there are seven homes on the east side of Shore Crescent without curbs and _boulevards4• 'in the near 'future, we read that Warren ,Street is to be completed", the letter stated. "Since' all the equipment will be on Warren Street we thought it possiblejo get our street done at that time." The letter and the petition were referred to the' Public 'Works division of council with Reeve Deb Shewfelt as chair- man. Srnmer f o bs . . continued •,from page 1 hers also make a good cross- section, The, placement officer 'can find a person to suit almost any job. Prospective ,employers are under no obligation to ''hire students . referred to -them by the office., Mr. Walden noted, however, that he can screen, them for Physical handicaps that could limit working capabilities. The' placement officer does more than just find jobs for students. He councils them about looking for jobs on their own. For example,•girls looking for babvsitti•ng jabs are, advised to. place. ads on local bulletin board,,,.. • AncxtIIer possibility Mr:'• • Walden will consider is work pools. They would be three or four students swilling tci do. cleanup,,babysitting, „.„housework, or even gas purnA 'ing part-time. One student would be in charge of answering calls and scheduling work. • He.isn't sure exactly how the work pools would be organized as the concept has never been attempted before• ft would probably start about mid-July when students would become more willing to take any -.jobs offered to them. . The town of Goderich could probably create about 10 jobs too, Mr. Walden said. These jobs could involve general° cleanup and maintenance in town. . Mr. Walden implied throughout the interview that the ".,best. way to ,make ' ,his student placement office' a suc- cess would ti.....b fi7r pri`vate” business and industry to con - •tact him with jop orrers eager students wilding to do a good job, • Only two weeks before Grand lodge "Exactly two weeks-•1<,r•om the opening here of the Grand Orange Lodge and the Grand Black Chapter' of Ontario West, committees working on the 'arrangements' met Monday evening under the chairman- ship hairmanship of Lloyd Hern, of Exeter, a' past grand master.
