° There's a., new building on
the horizon just east of
Goderich on Highway;, 8 that
serves •a dual purpose for` the,
animal lovefs and farmers of
° the area. The building is the
Goderich Ve,eri,nary Clinic and
it is both a • hospital for
emergencies •abd a clinic for
animals needing constant at-
..tention.
The man responsible; for its
existence is. Dr. Bill Schilthuis,-,
a graduate of the University of
Guelph. The doctor completed
his .studies at Guelph in 1971
and began practicing ander a
vet in Milverton. }He came 'to
Goderici, last August and took
Over. the; responsibilities of Dr.
Raithby, who ' took a job with
the government.
Dr. Schilthuis promptly began
wok on 'his dream- of many
'years and rn a d-i'nto his flew
animal care centre in December
of '73.
The clinic has.:, facilities for
care of both small and large
animals.. There . is an
examination, room that serves
as a laboratpry where the doc-

In the rear of the building
there are pens for horses, cows
orpigs :that 'can. not be tended
to on the farm and must be
,transported to the clinic for
complete care. At the n oment
the pens are being used by the
doctor's horses which he keeps

enjoy:

working day on a road
keeping a,constant eye on the
many cows and other farm
animals that ire-about,.to give
birth.
He is ` extremely busy,
working up,to 15 hours a day,
but he hopes to hold an open
house at the clinic to make its
existence known to the public„
and to make -Goderich's• animal
lovers aware that someone
truly cares about their precious
pets.

despite any efforts the bird 'was mit responding. He now
