Mr. Gardner explains that.
T--.Thornas, editor'".he
publication, contacted him
last December• and asked that
he discuss' the 1974 outlook
along with representatives of
the Venus Esterbrobk company,`
A.B. Dick Company of Canada,
Wilson 'Business Services,
Superior Office Suppliesand
other related industries.
Mr. Gardner's remarks
follow:
"Onward . and upward will''
continue to be the trend for
Sheaffer and most others in, the
office products and stationery
market in 1974. Sire there are
shortages of basic products,
particularly of paper. Ob-
viously, we are, experiencing. a
eller'"s market for paper, steel,
herpicals, and .their by-
products. But it will, take a
rjiajiir "slow` down, of the -
economy for the ;effect of .such
shortages to hit many of us.
Forecasting the overa'il..
economy has become almost an

' edonoinists' were saying,
that conditions had out

dicators they utilized...„ In the
past year ,a • completely new set
of conditions became obvious.
In many basic product areas,
"unprecedented demand aroand.

ding have been noted. Further,
the U.S.S.R., really became a

There's no question that real
and engineered 'shortages and
rapidly changing world-wide
political conditions are going to
cause pressures and.
dislocations. But the overall
attitude of business is op-
timistic, with everybody digging
,,„ in to make sure, they won't be
caught. Most alert and
aggressive people wjll probably,
succeed well beyond their we.,
pectations although many in
specialized industries adepeh-
