(T -A photo) Goderich United whip strong Sarnia team BY STAN PROFIT London German ('anadia.ns came to _Goderich with an un- beaten record this season to play Goderich United and they proved to be very stiff opposition to the local team The Germans are a very ex- perienced team and it says a lot for the local boys for displaying such a great brand of soccer. The game started in a con- tinual downpour of rain and af- ter ten minutes of..continous pressure Clare Sager opened the scoring. Reflinghaus, fired a strong shot that rebounded off the goalkeeper and Sager headed the hall into the net. The Goderich team were gaining a lot of confidence against their much vaunted op- ponents end from 0 perfectly placed corner kick from Brian Allen, Sager scored his second goal of the game. The Germans were gradually coming into the . game and displayed some fine positional play and Herman Manila scored on a thirty yards long shot. Ten minutes later Peter . Henning brought the scores level with a' free kick from just outside the 18 yards line, it was - a bullet shot giving Carl Molle°r, the Goderich goalkeeper mi chance to save. The 4.ocal team did not wilt and went into the attack.right- away. Five minutes from half- . time Reflinghaus put Goderich ahead once more and at half- time the score was Goderich United 3, London German Canadians 2. -In the second half the Ger- mans mounted a strong attack and looked like going all the way through the Goderich defence. Howie Gottschalk pulled the left winger down in the penalty area and the referee awarded a penalty kick to the London team. - GPH bowlers enjoy awards banquet The' Goderich Psychiatric- Hospital sychiatricHospital mixed bowling league held their tenth annual banquet on Friday evening at the hospital. - The ladies' high average was won by Marlene Harrison with a 192; high triple went to -Edith Moody, 7 67;' high single to Angela, Dawson and Lynda Chambers who tied with a 286. This was a let -off for the Goderich team and they went right -away into the attack and started to dominate the play. It came as no surprise when the United went further ahead, Reflinghaus scoring again to put the locals two goals ahead. Twenty minutes from the end Rick Fisher put the United another goal ahead. John Gott- schalk took a quick and cun- ning free kick right to the feet of Fisher who in turn lashed the hall into the net. The hest goal of the game came 12 minutes from the end and it started at midfield. Reflinghaus ,received the ball from Dave Graf and relayed a long pass to Brian (Crazy legs) Allen who in turn switched the ball hack to Reflinghaus who .by this time was away -out on the right-wing. . He in turn crossed the ball and Clare Sager racing towards the goal crashed the hall past the goalkeeper with his head, giving him no chance.
