park their cars on Frances
Street beside the school. This
recommendation followed a
'petition to the Wingham Coon -

ting to cars blocking their walk-
ways to their homes in the win-
tertime.

calling for the abolition of all
traps that do not immediately
kill the victim. I . do not do this
as a "hysterical amateur", but
as a landowner who has too of-
ten been sickened and
disgusted by the 'incredible
cruelty associated,with leg -hold
traps. - -
Much of our farm -land is in
bush and swamp. In spite of
signs reading: "No Hunting or
Trapping - Unarmed. Visitors
Welcome", someone is .always
sneaking in and setting traps.
Each time I watch --a released
animal hobble away: on three
freet, or put a hopeless cripple
out of its misery with a shot-
gun blast, I wish there was
some way all the smug, pious
pillars of society. •whose
cravings for ° wild furs created
this heinous traffic, could wit-
ness. ,A suitable souvenir for
those style -slaves would be a-
. -...chewed -off paw retrieved from
a blood-stained trap. -
In our society trapping is
• considered a manly and roman-
tic way of life. It seems to fit
into the general low regard for
life,- be it animal or human.
