They had Pow Wow (talking time) and then left for home. First Girl Guide Troop - The First Goderich Guides gave their. full attention to the ladies who came to teach them the things they need to know for their "Child Care" badges. Not only was , the lesson presented to the girls in a very interesting way but some of the demonstrations were made using a real "little doll". Paul Hiles, who is just sixteen months old,. charmed everyone as he helped his mommy show how to wash and dress very lit- tle children. The Guides received instructions on keeping Bridge scores. The Wingham Duplicate Bridge Club hosted the Goderich Club on Qctober 26. Six tables went' from the Goderich Club. The . Goderich Club had 1363 points with Wingham having 1159. North-South winners and their scores were as follows: W: French and Barney Ortlick, 140 points; A.J. Weerasooriya and Lee Ryan, 1281/2 points;- Miss Betty Etue and Mrs. J. Cook, 1271/2 points. East-West winners: Dr. and Mrs. M. Smith; 138 points; Mrs. B. Erskine and. W. Cochrane, 131 points; Mrs. K. Hunter and Mrs. F. Curry, 121 points. - There were eight tables in play at the Goderich Duplicate Bridge Club Tuesday, Novem- ber 14. Winners and their scores were North South, A.J. Weerasooriya and Dr. A.B. Deathe, 74 points; Mrs. K. Hunter and Mrs. F. Curry, 69 points; Dr. and Mrs. M. Smith, 681/2 points'. East-West, Bill Bradley and Glen Falkiner, 881/2 points; Mrs. B. + Erskine and W. Cochrane, 861/2 points; Mrs. J. Cook and Mrs. J. Chisholm and Mrs. A. Galbraith and Mrs. R Ryan tied with 681/2 points. When the Instructions and question and answer period were over the girls were given a week to study what they had just learned and then'they were given an examination., Everyone 'passed and the following ' girls received their "Child Care" badges from Mrs. Hiles and Mrs. Hill. Janice Davies, Patricia Scaman, Marlene McDougall, Heather Brander, Paula YB'Etler, Kim Brady, Melanie Johnston, Donelda Smith, Patty McCreight, Susan Fincher, Marie Bolton, Nancy Bird, Carolyn Little and Marion Melick. The last half of the.„,meeting was spent in . a sort of "dress 'rehearsal" for a visit to the people at Huronview. The trip was on Thursday, November 16 and the troop would like to thank Mrs. + Little, Mrs. Brander and Mr. Bolton for driving us. The girls' show went off very well and the audience was won- derful. The people at Huronview are really great at clapping and their applause took the girls' nervousness away in a matter of minutes. The troop -found' quite li bit of talent in their Company, while preparing the show, and naturally put "it" to work. Marie Bolton accompanied the Guides on her guitar, Paula Butler and" Marlene McDougall played violin and piano duets, Heather Brander and Kim Brady did some Highland dan- cing and .Janice Davies sang "One Tin Soldier" as well as leading the group in a fun song. The Mistress of Ceremonies was Marion Melick. The Guides helped wheel the patients back to their rooms and then left for Goderich. They finished their busy evening off with ice cream, cake, and pop before going home. The highlight of the evening was the presentation of a Motor Van to the Salvation Army for use at the House of Concord at Ilderton, a home for wayward boys, operated by the Salvation Army.
