(staff photo) After committee meeting study... ouncil provi es answer R,b The minutes of Goderich Town Council's committee meeting. of November 9 adopted last Thursday evening at the regular open council meeting showed that the answers to six questions posed by B.R. Robin- son have been given. Although the minutes stated that a letter would be sent to Robinson setting out the an- swers in detail, Robinson said Tuesday evening he still had received no correspondence from the Town of Goderich on the matter. He was not prepared Industrial Park sees activity The minutes of the November 8 meeting of the Goderich In- dustrial Commission yielded some interesting information, though of a somewhat vague nature. These minutes were presented at last Thursday evening's meeting of Town Council. ncil. The. report notedthat Mayor Harry Worsell spoke about an interview he and Councillor Deb Shewfelt had with a "German prosPect." The minutes noted the representatives of the firm will visit Canada again in March of 1973. Under an. item entitled "In- dustrial request to build in the Industrial Park," the following rote was made: "The 'above resolution (..,. land in the In-° dustrial Park be available to euitable purchasers at $1,000 per serviced acre, this price also to apply to Lot 24) to apply to request to purchase land in the Industrial Park. Following are Robinson's questions and council's answers as set forth in the minutes of the committee meeting: 1. What action " does Council propose to take against those who have violated the zoning bylaws now in effect and have been since 1958? The names as set out in the Planning Board letter of June 14, 1972, have been submitted to the Town Solicitor for study of legal im- plications that could arise from prosecution against zoning bylaw. 2. On what grounds.did.. coun- cil freeze all lands -designated "D" zone which iso not a legal description of any lands in the Corporation of Goderich at the present time since the proposed rezoning bylaw is not law? Resolution of October 5, 1972, did not place a freeze on all lands designated "D" zone in proposed zoning bylaw. (A copy e 1 of the resolution is to be forwar- ded to Mr.' Robinson.) ' 3. How many building permits have been issued in designated eD" zone areas since council's freeze, legally or otherwise, went into . effect October 5, 1972? Three building permits have been issued since passing of resolution of October 5, 1972 in areas that are classified as "D" zonein proposed zoning .bylaw. 4. Did the building inspector issue permits cfor construction in "D" zone by council's direction or not? Building Inspector issued permits without any ob- jections of council. 5. Who authorized the preparing of the second amend- ment to the official plan since the Goderich Planning Board did not? Adopt A detailed policy for drug education n in Huron County Schools as well as to -curb rb the -abuse of drugs- in the county schools; especially as it relates to the pupil population, was passed Monday evening in Clinton at the board's regular November meeting. - - The policy sets forth that the curriculum will include such programs as will ensure that students are made aware of the physical and psychological dangers incurred through the improper and illegal use of drugs. ._ Principals, teachers and non -teaching school employees will be requested to co-operate fully with law enforcement agencies and report to them any information that could 1 beneficial in their efforts to stem the increase in illegal use of drugs. Principals will be informed that any pupitor employee coming, upon the campus of any school in possession of or under the influence of illegal drugs of any kind, or attemptingto sell or use illegal drugs on the campus of any school shall be suspended forthwith and the facts reported immediately t� the Director of Education. ,Principals will then present to, the board, for con3ideration or. expulsion or dismissal, the name or names of any pupil or em- ployee convicted of an offence 'involving drugs. In a brief discussion about the drug problem believed to exist in the county schools, Chairman R. M. Mrs. Frank Curry, , a local clinic organizer, termed the event successful and the turnout about "average." "We are very grateful to the number of students who turned out to give blood," she noted. Mrs. Curry said that Goderich should have about 300 atten- ding each clinic. Mrs., Curry also explained that there are now two Hemophyliac babies in the local area and flue to their condition they require a great amount 6f blood. It was learned by council that although there was some clarification of certain legal aspects of the problem, there wasstill one question 'unan- swered' - .that of business tax which ' has been accepted from such businesses in the 'past.
