November, 1965,- and the plant
-went into operation in April of
1967. __
Located on the south Side of
Sunset Drive in Ale -south west
section of Goderich on the -shore
of .the lake, it provides
secondary treatment, using the
activated sludge kocess„ for a
dry weather flow of 1,000,000
gallons per day for a population
of 10,000.
Gravity flow ,through the
plant was obtained by
depressing the plant site on the
north isde of a natural ravine,
t ereby e iminating t e costly,
pumping of raw sewage.
• The plant combines some of
the most recent developments in
sludge treatment, disposal, and
automatic control. Land is
available for future expansion
of the plant, to double its
present capacity, or fo serve a
total 4popu1ation of
approximately 20,000:
The total cost of the plant,
including contingencjes, was
aiwroximatelY '$900,009.. This
included the cot of depressing
the plant • site .and extensive
erosion control' Measures in the
adjacent ravine.
With the exception of a few
homes in the ,northeast section
• of the town, the municipality
was previously served with a
• system of combined storm and
sanitary sewers, having their
outlet in the ravine at the south
side of the plant.
• • The sewers consisted of a 42"
• diaineter combined trunk seweil,
a 15" combined sewer and a
21" sanitary sewer. Minor
