Well Father's Day has come
and gone and we probably all have
some happy memories of
-happenings on this day.
Mine is of a gift to her father by

Father is up to his -elbows in cut
turkey, he hasn't had time to
shave and you can just see or feel
his haste in getting this large bird
cut into many pieces for his large
family - many of 'them with
_ husbands and tamily of their own,
and it is a sight to see.
It is simply titled - MY "DAD -

PRICELESS.
In my June first column, I used -
a few sentences from the beautiful
prose poem 'Desiderata', which I •

Whenever I read orhearit, it is

should say' Amen' when it is over.

many posters and other published
forms it is attributed thus: -
"Found in .old St. Paul's Church,

Itis, however, the work of Max
Ehrmann, a Terre , Haute, Ind.
businessman -lawyer, who wrote

the Poems of Max Ehrmann,

assistant of St. Paul's - which_

that caused so much confusion,,
from Rev. Frederick Ward Kates,
Minister of St. Paul's from 1956 to

During the Lentin season Kates
used to putt in the pews

and -poems that appealed to him.
Orte of the poems was Desiderata.
The authorship was apparently

sheets, which did, however, have
at the bottorn the words: St'Paul 's

words were put otY,, not to suggest
a uthor'sbip, but to pinpoint the

popt1arity, the poein has been

credit to St. Pai 1's and 1692.

that the work is in the public

has been with the recording of

Brothers, (recited by Les Crane,
with a choral background). They
omitted the proper credits,
unknowingly. They settled out of ,
court and haveigince altered the

Many still make the pilgramage
to St. Paul's expecting to see the
poem• inscribed there in aged
stone. Rev. Haller reports, "No
week goes by without someone
coming to look for it. It is no fun
telling them it's not to be found
here. They all go away terribly
disappointed."
The- ending of Desiderata
should cheer them: With all its

dreams, itis still• a- beautiful
